thinking of getting an XCR-L .223

Itd be rude not to. About 4000 rounds between cleanings, put away litterally covered with oozing wet clay mud for months, bashed the big chunks off and took it out again. It's ran flawlessly. Half dozen or so feed issues that were operator error. Enjoy.

I'd say go for it. You could get the tube stock a fair bit cheaper and that will give you something to work towards (getting the FAST stock I mean). I can't speak for everyone but I know personally, I would rather upgrade bit by bit on my own time than just buy the end result. I am planning on getting one myself in the near-ish future. I have been researching them exhaustively and have yet to find any serious drawbacks. If the weight bothers you just start eating your spinach... worked for popeye
