Thinking of Selling a 1950 Russian??

I think you're just going to have to realize that there are two types of SKS owners:

1) Collectors. These are people that may or may not be shooters but will prefer their SKS's original. They are likely to not agree with your views from what I have seen.

2) Non-ollectors. These are shooters, tinkerers, mall-ninjas (think tapco stocks and quad rails, aimpoints, etc. on an SKS) and yes, even Bubbas. This group is far more likely to agree with your views.

But whatever you do, don't post a thread asking if people value your mods away from originality if you are not prepared to hear divergent viewpoints ;)
 
I just picked up a 1950 SKS with laminate stock, all number matching, no ###x in the stock, very good shape, it's going to my brother as a gift from his wife for his Birthday, no matter what but the best part was the serial number......762......I just couldn't pass that up...

I will take a few pics of it, before he gets it....

Sometimes LeBarons really surprises me.....


ohhhh and if he don't like the finish on the stock, I know exactly what will be done, stripped, sanded, stained and sealed......
 
LOL - I think that's the 1950 I passed on. If it is, be careful - the action moves fore and aft in the stock by as much as a 1/4 inch. The fix is to glue a wood whip in at the back of the inletting where the trigger catch tang rests. Make it oversize and then slowly chisel it down until the action sits snug in the stock again. After that it should be a very nice gun. I'd have bought it except that I was looking for a chrome-bored shooter.

Maybe not the same, as the box was not even open, until it was brought out to the counter, and I feel no movement at all, it's as tight as could be, my 54 actually has a bit of play....

but I will check it again.....and thanks for the tip, incase it does have an issue....
 
Maybe it's not the same one - they could have had 2 '50's with 3-digit serials. Lebaron in Ottawa?

Also, bear in mind, re-sealing those boxes is just clear tape...

nope LeBaron in Mississauga, and no clear tape, box was sealed, it was first thing in the morning, I didn't even see anyone else in the store..

no matter it has no play...

but it will help with my 54 for sure.....
