Thinking of trying out shot in my horse pistol

I have a CVA .50 Horse Pistol. And for some thing different I was thinking of putting some lead shot between layers of wading. Has anyone else tried this?

I've used shot in smoothbores, tried all kinds of methods. I made little paper bags full of shot, that worked well. I also tried melting wax and using that to hold the shot together. Not 100% satisfactory, sometimes it stayed in one solid chunk. Is the horse pistol rifled?

Yes it's rifled. That why I was thinking of using several layers of paper with my home made conical wax to protect the rifling.

maybe a dime roller or the like...close the end with a thin layer of wax...

That sounds like it should work. The paper on those dime rolls a quite thick.

shot in a rifled barrel is a fools errand. Lots of info out there on how poor a pattern it will produce.

Not sure what results you are hoping for. Its not going to damage the rifling or anything but its not going to give very good groups either.

Unless your shot pouch holds together I think you might have trouble busting a clay bird at much more than about 10 yards. It's been a lot of years since I've tried these kind of things but none of my experiments ever worked as well as I had hoped. Never hurts to give it a go and see though.

I friend gave me a few pounds of lead 0 buck and I'm just thinking about making a lot of smoke and holes with it. LOL
