Third Double Gun Classic (Side by Side Get Together)

For southern Ontario group I have a dozen antique brass 12 ga. hulls to donate in pairs as snap caps for best scores or misc. awards. A buddy will tumble them for me and am thinking I will fill the primer pockets with JB weld.

Lond.

Just wanted to give a big thanks to Londonshooter for these brass hulls. Nice to have a little "on topic" award.

Patrick, thank you for your time and effort organizing this event!

And thanks to all who drove from all over southern Ontario, your participation (and the weather) made it the best "CGN SXS get together" to date!

My pleasure, James. I even won a pair although certainly not for my shooting. Honestly, everyone was a pleasure to meet and spend time with. Thanks so much also to Brybenn for the sweet truck trip and great company.

A huge thank you to the Oshawa club for opening their doors to us. It was also nice that we had quite a few club members come over to chat and admire the guns.

A few pictures.....

First-rate event, awesome planning and organization by Patrick, Rick and all the other CGN members. Had an awesome time meeting up and trading stories with a bunch of great guys!

Just a little story with regards to the kindness of all our members. Brought my two elderly uncles to the shoot, although not technically CGN members they're both hunters and occasional shooters that appreciate SXSs. One of my uncles has severe mobility problems and spent most of the day in one spot. Kudos to all the members who took the time to talk to him and make him feel welcomed and part of the group. Class act gentlemen!

As previously mentioned, Londonshooter was very generous and provided some vintage brass shells as prizes. Also, thank you to Mark who brought his bore and wall thickness gauges.

The first set of brass snap caps went to the individual who brought the most guns. And the winner was.......Mark Dube with 8!

Next up was the light weight award won by brybenn and his 12g Gaspar Arizaga. 6 pounds 3 ounces. 25" barrels choked IC & Full and a nice English stock.

Now for the heavy weight award. Weighing in at a whopping 9 pounds & 7 ounces was Londonshooter's 1903 Lefever Grade G (F on the barrels but matching serial numbers). It has 32" Damascus barrels that weigh 5 pounds 8 ounces on their own. Appropriately choked full and tighter than full for reaching out for the long shots.

This year the "Best Gun" prize went to Mark Dube and his Parker. The pictures do not do it justice. The wood on this gun is spectacular!

"My current Sporting clays/Crow Crusher/Goose Thumper is a Parker Bros DH 12 gauge with 32" barrels, straight grip, choked IM & IM which I have recently had restocked & reblacked. It was made in 1903 & belonged to two well off Montrealers who burned lots of powder."

I don't think pictures of the 2015 & 2016 winners were ever posted so .........

2016

A custom Fox BE grade belonging to cjo. The even more amazing part is that cjo did the work himself.

2015

Belonging to canvasback, a Manufrance Ideal 6R EE Excelsior circa 1920. Ideals were made by Manufrance, France's largest gun maker, mostly unchanged in basic design between 1888 and 1985. They are extremely simple and very strong round action shotguns, offered in various grades from field to extremely high grade, much as most American SxS manufacturers did. It's most noticeable feature is the relatively unique trigger guard opening lever, a very ergonomic design that removes the unsightly top lever we are all so used to. As well it also has a very unique retractable sling, hidden in the stock until required.
The gun has 29" barrels, 2 3/4" chambers and an LOP of 14 1/2" and weighs 6 pounds, 13 ounces. It is choked IM & Full. Barrels were refinished in 2015. Stock is still to be done. (The stock has now been completed and pictures included)

Patrick and I appreciate the kind words from everyone. We really enjoy organizing this thing and look forward to continue it in the future. I didn't shoot much but I really enjoyed meeting and talking with the guys from this forum. And as you guys found out, I can TALK. Everyone participating made this easy to put together and run with no issues. Thanks to everyone

Looking at the photos I guess I should have washed my truck lol

Can't wait to do it again. Met some great ppl

I also didn't realize how lucky I am to live in the best crow shooting county in the country. Down here we hate them but love shooting them.
