***Yes, Useless without Pics, will post when camera cooperates***

So I bought a sporterized Lee-Enfield from another CGN user tonight. This is my third LE but my first No4Mk1. From what I can tell all the metal is matching but I'm no expert to say the least.

The left side of the receiver has No4Mk1 engraved in the side and that is it. On the left side of the wrist and the bolt handle is a matching 5 digit serial number, H###1 and England below that. On the wrist is a B with 1942 below the B and the serial number below the year. The bottom of the barrel near the receiver is stamped 42, and the B is on the top of the receiver.

Anyone able to tell me how the serial numbers worked out of Birmingham, where I figure this LE is from? Anything unique or interesting about the H series?

Looking to put it back in an original stock. It retains the proper front site and the butt stock came with the gun, but the original forestock was cut down in the sporterization process. It currently sits in a Boyd Sporter stock.

Restocked with an Ishapore set, middle Enfield. Top is a 1917 No1Mk3 all original, bottom is a restored 1950 No4Mk2.

please don't take it the wrong way, but the sporterized rifle looked wayyyyyyyy better than the restocked one.

Just look at the wood and wood grain..

BTW, there is nothing wrong with a sportreized Enfield, they are as much part of our history as are the ones in original trim.

Wow! That sporter is gorgeous. If you don't want it cluttering up your gun cabinet, send it to me! :D

Not taken the wrong way at all. Sporters just aren't my thing, prefer the original look. Boyd stock is already on its way to a new home.

When I bought the rifle it came in the Boyd stock. I also got the original stock but it had been sporterized too. The butt stock was unmolested but the lower forestock was cut down. It is just as nice, blonde with few battle scars. Just need a matching forestock. The current stock is a standby until I come across a forestock to match the original stock color.
