I bought this gun off EE and was told it really liked 140 vlds over 42.5 h4350 and was given 1box with the gun. So I went to buy more and the stores I went to didn't have . I went to one store and they only had one box of hornady 143s so I went to another and they had neither vlds or elds so I bought a box of Sierra 140 which the guy said didn't do as good as the vld bullets but I thought I would try anyway . I have made the 300 3" challenge with two of these loads and had 10 of each left so thought I would put them side by side I have shot better with the vlds before and the ELD bullets have been the best . Today the Sierra was the winner . I shot a lot of 223 today before I started with the ctr and was getting shot out toward the end I know I pulled a couple of these shots but at the end of the day I don't think it matters which bullet I choose the gun will shoot them better than I can . All of these are 5 shot groups, pretty close to the same POA also

PS the Sierra did not do well with H4350 but shines with H4831 , haven't tried other powders with the other bullets

Sorry guys but I love the tikka CTR rifles .I have a 308 that shoots as good as this one too which also did one load successfully in the 300 yd challenge . Finding the best load is hard they keep changing , but I think that is my fault

Very nice. I bet you would do even better with a black square to aim at. If you aim at a corner, the cross hairs line up perfectly.

I use target patches at 100 yards. Here is what happens when the group happens to form at the POA - it wipes out the aiming point. RR refers to one of my AR-15s with a Rock River barrel.

A much better aiming mark target can be down loaded free at http://www.targetz.com/targetzlib/10006.pdf

Thanks for the tip Ganderite , I will try that. I was wishing I had set up better for this test as I was shooting off my bipod and mono pod instead of my good front rest and rear bag . I have a range set up in my yard and do these things on impulse. I wasn't really trying for the challenge this time , but I will be if I could decide on a load
