Dunno if you guys have seen this or not but I don't know that I'd be first to put my name down on the shooting a brown bear with a .223 list.... :runaway:

No word from Robarm about XCR-M, eh? I'm still waiting patiently for the .308.....

The record BC griz for years had been shot with a .30-30. Back in my younger days I once shot a 280 lb black bear with a .220 Swift and it did a more than acceptable job. One shot under the ear jellified the entire skull. not my 1st choice but it's all about placement...

I agree about placement.

BUT if the bloody spot on the lower belly is in-fact a hit area, no way that thing went down on one shot of any .223 ammo.

looking at the scope the guy used, I would say it was a close encounter

Lol scope thats a holographic sight there an EOtech to be exact. As for the arguement about the particular round used. A 5.56 to the skull will kill most animals excluding some from Africa. Also if you use good bullets in the 223 you can take plenty of game with it. And if you don't get a good shot you always have 4 or 9 more depending on the mag left for followup shots.

Looks like that guy had about 29 left :D

You mean to tell me you don't need a 20mm to kill a bear?

That is not a big bear. Period, no getting around it.

I've used a .223 with 53gr TSX bullets to kill a black bear about the same size.

I shot it at about 125 yards, one shot behind the shoulder, it rolled down a bank and was dead.

I wouldn't dream about intentionally using a .223 on a full size grizzly, it's jsut not enough gun.
