I am going to go out on a limb here but the rifle in question is a US model and the shotter is in the US as the Pmag he has is the window model and it clearly shows a topped up mag IE:20 +rnds

I wouldn't say that would make for having balls that would be complete lunacy. Because your chance of surivial would be near nil.

As for the rest of it. I don't think the guy was trying to look like a hero as well as others who take picture of animals they take on hunts. They take the pictures to capture the memories. Most people don't hunt for the kill they hunt to get out with nature and for the food.

By the way taking on a live armed human being does take some balls. I have respect for any man or woman who puts their life on the line whether it military or Law enforcement.

Many of us enjoy hunting, and use guns to kill our prey. deal with it.
 
Last I checked the 55 year old Alberta record for Grizzly is still a 26+ scored bear by a little old lady with a single shot 22LR.

The 223 maybe marginal but will do the job. Shot placement is the only factor. Using a big guy is to compensate cause you cant shoot where it counts and are hoping the total damage done will end up killing the animal instead.

I once gunned down a charging bull elephant with my red rider b b gun. Then i did a frontal assault on the 3 cdo shack up in pet with my super soaker and gunned down the entire commando on precinct night. I was a hero alright.
