With all this fuss about the .50 and LR shooting, I had to place my .02 worth! I'm on exchange with Charlie Coy, 3rd Bn of the 17th Inf Reg't, 7th ID out of Fort Ord, Calif. We are shooting aircraft drones with the M60A1 machine guns and we had a chance to wring out the .50 cal at gophers about 100meters away. Heeeere kitty kitty kitty !

And yes, the US Army Sergeants ordered ALL of us to UNDO our chinstraps because this is the post Vietnam US (read: all volunteer) ARMY. Their logic was that blast concussions would damage your spine/neck region during the upwards energy flow.

The best fun was the look on our Sr NCO's and Warrants when their orders to "Do up your chinstrap, you gas plug." Only to be disappointed when the US Top Sgt reminded them that we are in the USA and all chinstraps were to be left undone. Ah yes... the joys of a peacetime army!!

Yuk yuk yuk

Cheers,
Barney

Did you ever shoot the M2 off a track pintle mount. All that mass moving around made a big burst very diff to control. It sure is cool watching a tracer skip off a tank hull 800-1000M away when you did it right.

Great Photo man !!!

I've heard of people getting killed because of a survivable concussive blast that knocked a helmet into a soldier's skull and killing him. The helmet being the instrument of death. That's why modern helmets have lots of padding.
