This is why you should always detail strip a new gun

Judging by a few friends STI's and a few range rentals I think STI are the best value in 1911 right now. My next handgun will allmost certainly be an STI spartan.

Where do people come up with this crap? New guns with lots of oil on them are hiding problems???? Really???? So I take it that applies to other mechanical devices too then eh? Like when I order parts for our machines and they show up in grease or covered in oil, you know, to protect them during transport. So the sight had some rust on it, someone screwed up, simple. But the rest of this bull#### some people are posting is ####ing annoying. I handle thousands of new guns every year, with a fair number ending up in my safe, funny how most of them are coated in a nice thick coat of oil. I wonder why?

Well said.

Maybe I'm off my rocker, but I've noticed that the guns I've bought that were manufactured overseas were oiled the heaviest, perhaps because they're going to be sitting in sea cans for weeks crossing the ocean.

No need to get so upset, we need you here banning people.
I am not making this up, It is my experience. If your is different you can simply post your experience without minimizing others or calling them bull####.

I bought several pistols, all made in Germany, from different manufacturers. None of them had oil, except for packing grease in key points. One time, I bought the same gun twice from different places, one came as usual (no oil) the other one came with lots of oils, along with wear marks in different points (that you could only notice if you had purchase that same firearm twice because the wear points were subtle but indicating according to my previous experience that the gun had been fired at least 1000 times).

Well that gun is made in the Philippines, and they did just get leveled with a typhoon....

Hmmm,..that reminds me of a car auction I attended some years ago.....there was a pile of "flooded cars" that were Cleaned up for the sale. They looked good on the outside................

Did you ever consider the type of steel used? Aluminum or poly frame with a stainless slide won't require as much preserve oil as an all carbon steel 1911 will.

that is true, I did not but started thinking about it after my last post. So what you say is true and also It is true that some manufacturers ship their firearms with different lubricants too.
The guns I am talking about were Sigs, Walthers and HK, all different materials each, so just to clarify, none of those firearms were carbon steel. In fact, never had any carbon steel and I do not have any experience with that specific material.

Now, my question is, is the rust on the slide or just the sights? just curious....

Sorry dude, but people making blanket statements when their experience is nil pisses me off, and more and more often it's gun people doing it. In your case you've stated quite nicely a differing experience in a well thought out way. Other people haven't.
