This makes me happy and sad at the same time

Little carbines and little bullets seem to do a good job at dropping deer where they stand in my experience.

Congratulations, awesome picture too. Nice to see the Tavor in the field.
I shot with you in Chilliwack at a black rifle shoot. I had the x39 XCR with OD furniture.
I'm curious what bullet you used and how close you took the shot.

Cheers
Paul

A RFB that was capable of better than +2MOA.

If you figure out how to hold it and what ammo it likes an RFB is capable of better than 2MOA. Not much better than that but I've made quite a few 1.5MOA 5 shot groups with mine. That was with various handloads, I've never tried premium factory loads in it.
It's marketed as a battle rifle style firearm though, so if it does 2MOA that's pretty good. It was never advertised as a DMR or sniper rifle so why does anyone expect it to shoot like one? It shoots as well as many hunting rifles out there and looks pretty cool while doing it. Sure there are rifles that can outshoot it but so what, everyone should know by now that it is for the most part a 2MOA rifle and if that isn't good enough for you then don't buy one. An RFB can easily take a deer with a clean one shot kill and pack through the bush all day with ease. Does making all your shots into a group of 1 inch instead of 2 inches when on a shooting bench at the range really make any difference when shooting a deer at 200yds in the field? I know there are no shooting tables where I hunt and this rifle is easy to hold and points well making offhand shots easy.

Weird quirk of our law that is more related to the use of pistol mags in pistol caliber carbines. The LAR mag simply takes advantage of that.

It's not a weird quirk, the LAR-15, as well as the XCR pistols are imported registered and sold as pistols. They are in fact pistols according to the law. That is the why we are able to have 10 round magazines for them. The only reason such pistols are not as popular in Canada is because they are no less restricted than SBRs.

As more people hunt with black rifles it will become more mainstream. More and more fudds will pull the heads out of their asses and give a black rifle a shot, they will then come to realize that they are not so unpractical for hunting. As the fudds come around slowly the general pop will follow which will allow the Ar platform to move to non res status.
And then my dream came to an end and I woke up to reality lol

Hey Paul!
I used a 62 grain Federal Fusion, and I lucked out with a 10 meter shot. Good scouting paid off this season, with a bit of luck. I was on a game trail north of Squamish that I noticed had a lot of activity. The winds were right and he walked right into me as a result.
I will say I felt limited with .223, even though the Fusion bullet is amazing, I would not have pushed it further then 200 meters.

Now we may not be able to hunt with our AR-15s yet, but there are a lot of black rifles we can hunt with. We need to be visible, and if more guys are out there with Tavors, XCRs, and RFBs took them out hunting we could actually begin to change the culture that surrounds traditionalists who believe only bolt rifles make good hunting arms. Superior ergonomics, lighter weight materials, and shorter profiles make black rifles amazing hunting rifles.

Thanks for the info. I bough the same ammo but my .223 has a 28" heavy barrel, tracking is out of the question :). I think it'll be a great combo for calling predators though.
I bet you get some looks carrying the Tavor, I know I do with my XCR.

Did you find the bullet?

Back to the US thing for a second...I filled out my form 6 NIA on Monday and got it back on Wednesday. I'll try to take some pics of a Canuck legally killing coyotes with his AR, I'm also going to have my 1911 on my hip just to say I did. Its really sad that what should seem like simple little freedoms like this are such a big deal to us up here. This country could be so great but we settle for such mediocrity. It should give us all pause when we think of the upcoming election and what the landscape of our sport will look like under Trudo.

The Tavor gets some looks. Earlier in the season I was out with my Grandfather and his friend, who were at first skeptical and a bit teasing about it, but were quickly won over after some handling.

The bullet blew through the backside of his neck, so no recovery unfortunately. Lots of damage though, the deer died on his feet.
I made the choice on the brand of cartridge after watching TNOutdoors9's ballistic test on Youtube. You won't be disappointed, out of a 28" barrel that round will be flying. It is the most accurate round out of my Tavor so far as well, so that has been a nice plus.

Happy hunting, and be sure to circulate those photos. The people need to know that an AR-15 is a perfect hunting rifle.
