Some people (especially serious competitiors :D) will get a giggle or three out of this........

As you may or may not know, the Calgary & District Target Shooters Association is holding a 3-Gun match tomorow at the Shepard range. I plan to show up and have some fun, shoot some rounds, and a lot of BS with the lads:p

3-Gun requires a shotgun, handgun, and rifle, and you compete against the clock.

My equipment choices should draw a few laughs along the way.

My shotgun is a box-magazine fed Dominion Arms Grizzly. I prefer changing out magazines instead of stuffing rounds one at a time into a tube.

My pistol is a Norc 1911A1 clone, with a Wolff spring kit and full-length guide rod. Reliable as the day is long.

My rifle will be my 1943 SVT40. THIS is the one that I think will get a few stares. Most of the shooters use various AR's, Mini-14's, M305's, SKS's, CZ/VZ rifles, etc. I've not yet seen anyone use an SVT (I'm seriously tempted to bring my Mosin Nagant 91/30 as well).

Some will ask WHY I'm using a WWII surplus rifle in a 3-gun match.

1) I'm going for fun, not to win (which I couldn't do anyway).

2) I like to try different (read :weird) things now and again.

3) It's raining like hell in Calgary right now, which means I can't get out to the range to sight in my CZ858, after I had to take the front sight apart to put Loctite on it.

4) I don't have enough ammo for my M-305 .

This is gonna be fun.........:D

Good on you...Run what you got and have fun. Its time we got more inclusive of people and not their gear for the love of the shoot.
That being said I don't have any other rifles than AR's at the moment... kinda miss the Springfield M1

There is fun and all, but what amuses me is that when people do running or biking they tend to get the best gear available. But for gun sport it is somehow better to get the least appropriate rifle... I don't think it is a good promotion for our shooting sports. Not to mention it is painful to watch people running those rifles.

Now that I realize there is a 3 gun happening, wondering how I may register. Just show up?

Also, regarding the firearms, is there any limitation on the type of gun for the handgun portion? I have 2 extremes. A .22 WMR and a .500 S&W. I was thinking I would use my KSG and SKS as the other two. I haven't done 3 gun before but thought it might be fun to try.

Yeah, seriously, who would want to have FUN.
Lol

Just my opinion of course but you have been one of the poorest examples for "our sport". I remember as a new IPSC Shooter I asked you why you shot a stage in Brant the way you did. I was looking for helpful advice that I got from every single IPSC Shooter before and after my question to you. Your reply was an arrogant, "because it was faster" and you walked away. Since then I have witnessed your arrogance too many times to count.

To the Op, have a blast! To Euxx, I guess your next step will be reporting me to CGN officials as that's what you do. GIVE'ER BUDDY!

Wow, what ever happened to just having fun shooting what you had in the closet?

I have seen some real good guys running SKS and others at the cqb shoots in Borden. With some great times as well.

Truthfully, I love seeing new guys get into the sport with whatever they have available....especially since it doesn't make sense to buy anything until you know whats going on.

BUt thats why the par time is important, cause duck guns and sks's don't always get the job done, especially with a new shooter. Now if you know the score and are proficient with those guns, all the power to you. Perfect example, at the TH 3 gun match, there was a guy there with a 3-shot duck gun, a single stack 45, and I forget what rifle, but you could tell he easily knew how to use them. He knew when to reload, when to move, when to shoot, I was actually quite impressed!

Nothing beats seeing a guy run them proficiently.

But I would rather see a "new" guy out shooting his ska, duck gun and single stack then him sitting at home and not joining in.

Usually the bug bites you not long after and you start to upgrade your equipment. But that's just IMO.

Somehow you never bring your glock when shooting in open division...

People always see what they want to see... The best part of the story - I don't even remember telling you anything, now it is obvious you didn't like my straight and honest answer back then, still hold personal grudge and crying like small baby... Man the f**k up. You do owe me an apology for what you are doing here and on other forums.

Actually I have shot a Glock in Open division (yes on purpose, i did not get bumped there) but nice try.
And that was at a level IV Match, not some level I Or II

i'm excited for you, that sounds like it will be a blast, should be interesting to say the least.
any plans for video? at least come back and tell us how it went.
