Mentioning all the countries that never recovered after a scrap with US or CANADA? Your missing the point, if you invade a country and remove their position of power in a region and walk away you don't have to rebuild their country. My point is if you are using a SKS in combat you are at a disadvantage, less rounds, less accurate. The SKS was going to the garbage can or to be melted down. The com bloc found a market in rednecks with lifted pickups that like to shoot beer cans in Canada & USA. Just think people like me saved the SKS.

In reality it's a piece of junk but is fun and cheap to shoot when you are out camping.

Built by no less than 7 different nations and supplied to numerous more. It does exactly what it was intended for. It's design spawned the type 81 which was the main armament of the world's largest nation for over two decades. That design has been in use by that nation as a front line weapon since 1956 to today.

Used side by side with the ak47, rpk, RPD against the ar15 an m14. It's only downfall was that it wasn't select fire and its capacity. All things that were rectified by the type 63 and later in production by the type 81.

The SKS last saw major conflict in 1981 under china vs Vietnam, at which point the 81 replaced it prior to china vs Vietnam part 2.

Millions upon millions of them surround the globe. Pretty amazing for technology that is "junk".

I have to agree. I was just making the point that I don't like the factory stock. Didn't expect things to swing so far afield. Glad I didn't post a thread titled "ATI or Tapco for my SKS?" Don't want to push anyone over the edge.

I think I'll hang out on the rimfire board for a while. Seems a little calmer over there.

- all tools
- cars/trucks
- ATVs
- boats
- kitchen utensils
- coffee makers

etc etc ... doesn't make any of the above inherently unsafe.
