Are there any milsurp guns out there in a caliber less than .270(edit)? I want a varimint gun and where I am to hunt with a centerfire it has to be .270(edit) or less.
Any options?
Thanks

(edit) I typed the wrong numbers for the caliber, I should know better than to try and think about 2 things in the same day.

Sure, any variant of the M16 or AK-74 would fit the bill. Of course you can't buy one if you don't own one now, and even if you do own one, you can't shoot it.

Unless it's some local by-law in the London area (?) the regs actually say .275 or less I believe.
Anyway, the calibre of a rifle is determined by the bore diameter from land to land and that's how the .270 sneaks in under that.
7.62 x 39 does not qualify! So, no SKS or AK47 types are legal.
The only common milsurps that qualify are the 6.5 Carcano, 6.5 Arisaka and the 6.5 x 55 Swede. Of these, I'd take the Swede any day!

$150 to $300 for the average one in decent shape. Either a bolt action Mauser or an AG42b Ljungman (semi-auto) would fit the bill. I've got a Carl Gustaff from 1920 pretty much all original and I paid $225.00 I think.
Deadly accurate, too! ;)
