this rifle is restricted or not?

It's restricted and you're limited to 10 rounds...I'm in the process of importing one right now. It's actually made in Germany by Carl Walther and imported by Umarex...I make that distinction so that the airsoft comparisons don't come up.

Why would it be limited to 10 rounds ? do they make a pistol model?

its black - thus its restricted. I think from now on, when importers send in samples to the RCMP, they should be sending in the pink models.

edit: that was sarcasm -- i have no idea what it is, I'd bet it'll end up being restricted like the mp15-22

Yea, but you can legally get and use hi-capacity mags that are compatible with restricted AR 22's, like Black Dog mags, and I heard the guy in video say that the HK accepts those.

It is really confusing but you'll get up to speed and be explaining it to the next guy, until we get these crazy rules straightened out.

Remember non-restricted AR's? I do.

I did a look on Black Dog's website and they say it's compatible with the Colt M4 .22LR (also by Umarex). Cross referencing those mags with the HK416 .22LR mags reveals they're the same product code. I'm betting they will fit also. I just placed an order for some in anticipation of them working. I'll keep everyone informed if they do...that would make it sooooo much more appealing.

My mistake, I listened to the video again and the guy says "AR15 syle mag.." - but referencing the article I've added a link to below it does indeed use the same Colt M4 .22lr mags as you also discovered. So that's 10 rounds only I guess.

I found a great review of this gun at http://www.majorpandemic.com/2011/12/hk-416-d145rs-22-lr-ar15-rifle-review.html

In the review it states "The magazines for the HK 416 are made of high-strength polymer and are the best .22LR AR magazines I have had the pleasure of using. They are not compatible with more prevalent .22LR AR Black Dog magazines."

Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I understand... If you have a rimfire cartridge, you have no magazine capacity maximum. I was at the gun store a few weeks ago, and they were selling 50 round drums in .22lr.

Rimfire rifle mags, there is no capacity limitation. Rimfire pistol mags are limited to 10 rounds, as they did not get an exemption in the mag capacity regs. Rimfire magazines made and advertised for both a rifle and pistol are limited by the more restrictive regulations of the two, so they are limited to 10 rounds as per the pistol mag regs.

Yep...I jumped the gun (pun intended)...they make a magazine for a Colt .22 but it's not the Umarex one...hence my mistake. Not too big of a deal...I got the BD mags at a steal of a price...so I can probably unload them for what I paid pretty easy.

I'm going to be getting a CMMG dedicated 22 upper, if you bought the Black Dog mags that go with that system let me know, I can use them.
