This Russian Rifle Just Might Be the Cockroach of Guns: Meet the SKS

I can see their point, I am a newer target shooter in Canada and due to price purchased a Russian SKS. Frankly, I have not been satisfied with it, the firing pin seized and double tapped, and it is also stove piping. I put in a Murphy's firing pin with a spring to prevent the slam fire issue but I can't for the life of me resolve the stove piping/failure to feed issue. I think I failed the gun lotto (as some others have mentioned in this thread).

I suspect I might post it on EE at a subsidized price with an explicit note that it has feeding issues and move on to a more reliable platform.

One thing Sergei Simonov didn't imagine was somebody limiting the magazine to only 5 rounds.
Sometimes the pin restricts the follower movement and it induces an undesirable pitch up in the last couple of rounds, resulting in misfeed.
Make sure the follower wobbles freely on the arm.

Got 5. The Yugo and Chinese I plan on keeping forever...

5 seems bout' right! I've seen people with over 10, a few! So, realistically I'd bet there are Tons & tons of SKS's in Canada, wonder what the # is? hmmm.. Doubt many would ever get Reg. :p For the Mis-Feeding post, maybe try to find another -factory- Mag {on EE}, or grab a Tapco & try it. See if still having same issue.

I think the SKS is definitely to our generation as the Lee Enfield was in the mid 20th century - cheap, plentiful, common ammo, and most people have at least one in their basement. There must be people out there who have nothing except for 1 SKS that they shot once and put under the bed to never think about again.

Yeah - I know of people who have double digit SKSs, and at least 2 people who only have an SKS and a shotgun. It's a multi-purpose gun.

I have a hard time saying no to SKSs...

Yes, and that's ok too, as long as they cleaned it before putting it away!

I was living in an apartment for a couple years and that was exactly what I had with me, an SKS and a rem 870 express. Satisfied all my shooting needs and wants for that time period and I didn't have to worry too much about taking special care of them except cleaning after shooting corrosive.

I don't know with what weapons WWIII will be fought, but WWIIII will be fought with SKS's.

In all seriousness, if one values simplicity, reliability and compact firepower at a ludicrously low price, it's hard to beat this rifle.
I just picked up a mint Chinese military 70s production model for 200 shipped off the EE! Bang for buck they can't be beat
I'll never be without one again.

I have collected 4 of them over the past 3 months, slowly i have been upgrading with some bling. Anyone here have any great photos of some nice bling overkill :)

If bling means issued military kit, then this is the correct forum.
If it means aftermarket plastic and other tacticool add ons, the Red Rifles section of the board is the place to go lol.
