This season's moose rifle

Took my neighbour to get his first ever.

Husqvarna Model 96 in 9.3X62

It works!

I carried my Harper 9.3X62 that has several moose hunts in its history.
Ted

Nice looking animal! I kind of figured with a spread like that, he'd have a bigger body. Any estimate, or weighing of him?

Last 30 years we’ve taken them with:

30-30, 7x57, 270, 308, 270 WSM, 300 WSM, 7 STW

All worked just fine, this year I called a bull out of the alders to 120 yards, a 180 grain federal from my 300 WSM put the young fellers first moose on the ground.

If I had to pick a gun just for moose, I’d likely lean toward the 30 cal mag’s or a 338. Good selection of bullets, good down range energy and decent trajectory for longer shots. Nothing fancy but they work every time if you do your part.
