My name is Al and I live near Port Hope, Ontario. This will be my first turkey hunt, I am really looking forward it it. I have been practicing my calls for months and been doing lots of readings on hunting tactics. I haven't really been able to secure a good spot for hunting though. I was hoping if you could please help me find a good spot for my first turkey hunt. I understand that pretty much 99% of turkey hunting in Ontario is done on private land.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Have a great season,
Al

I completely understand your frustration. I live in the Ottawa area & I have access to just a couple spots to hunt. I've NEVER shot a turkey. I see plenty of them, but they are on other properties that I don't have access to.

Sucks!

One day I will own my own land... One day!

Cheers
Jay

Get out and knock on doors asking permission to hunt. It's the only way you are going to get a spot to hunt short of over-crowded crown land areas or going with an outfitter. Scouting and seeking permission should have been part of your preparation months beforehand in conjunction with your call practice and learning hunting tactics. Now you are in front of the 8 ball instead of behind it as season is starting up!

This time of year all permission are given, you are running late, wish you good luck but next year start you scouting after the Hollidays... JP.

Oh I've tried. Since early February. I thought people would be nicer.. But they either don't open the door, or say 'sorry'...

I drove to town yesterday and seen three big Tom's running across the feild so I stopped and asked to hunt. He says yes and also owns the farm beside it 200 acers.you just have to ask.whats the worse that could happen

I have an older friend who went with his son looking for property. His son said "Wait in the truck Dad i'll be right back." His son went to the door claiming his Dad was crippled and this would be his last year to hunt... depends how desperate you are lol.

I hate to admit it but I MAY have taken my daughter, when she was a young, growing, wanting to see nature, once or twice, when meeting a landowner to ask for hunting permission. Please note I said "may" and names are withheld to protect the innocent LOL. Now I think of it that never worked!!

Lol you guys are a creative bunch.
Guys, please PM me if you have some private land for me to hunt on.
Thank you, Al

No offense, Al, but you are attempting to hit the "Easy Button" here... why would anyone give up their hard earned hunting spots...

I assume you have a vehicle and two functioning legs... do your scouting and do your knocking like the rest of us... drive back roads early and late spotting birds, knock on doors, present yourself well, dress casually, start by introducing yourself with your full name, occupation and where you live, tell the landowner that you are a safe and respectful hunter, say you spotted some turkeys on their property and ask if they would mind if you tried hunting them.

If you seem upright and sincere, you will get your fair share of "yes" answers.

Doing this scouting leg work is all apart of hunting turkeys in Ontario.

This is the way you gain permission to hunt. Also keep in touch during and after the hunt. If you are successful share the harvest and be gracious for the opportunity provided to you.

I go and stick a 50 gift card in the mail box of old guys property that I hunt on . Before Christmas .. TSC or Princess
Or Tims cards . even if I don't hunt their land that year .
