This years Bull,

well, it could have been my first buck, but it went differently. We'd been hunting hard the previous day and on Sunday morning, all the guys but 2 of us were gone to stands we have organized.

We were going for walk in a spot we saw the previous day that had lots of tracks. I said to my friend, i think i'm going to change boots before we go its a wet spot to walk. As i'm changing my boots my friend facing me says, there's a moose right there behind you in the filed, I turn around and see that nice bull at about 300 yards, my first bull sigting in hunting situation. He says you go ahead and shoot him (since i'm the one who always prepares and shoots before season and work up loads of 3/4 moa etc) i got so nervous, just got to my knee and shot in a second, i said right away, i missed over. He had to to get a shot off before he disaperaed in the trees.

Anyways, to make a long story short, i was right i did not even touch him, he got him in front of the lungs, ran about 100 feet and layed there.

So what have i learned, take more time next time, i could have gone prone easily on this one since he was just standing looking at us.

All in all, i'm just happy we did not wound him, but i'm still a little pissed at myself. I guess i'm one of those, very good at the range but really suck in the field

oh, before somebody asks, i was using my tikka 695 in .270 win with 140 gr barnes tsx that print 3/4 inch at 100. Scope is a bushnell 4200 2.5-10

Looks like a real dandy. We shot a slighly larger one Sunday evening. He was just in excellent shape...no odor at all, still showed a bit of fat. 4 Quarters hanging weighed 562 lbs. We still have a couple of Tags, so may look for one more. Eagleye.

Yep, you could have.:D

Having lots of range time is a good thing to promote muscle memory and good technique, but nothing simulates having an animal in the scope and the feelings that evokes.

Last year was my first year hunting big game and I muffed a dead easy shot on a trotting doe at close range because I got all excited about my first deer in front of me. I got lucky and got two on my last day of hunting to make up for my miss. I would have been kicking myself all winter if I hadn't got another opportunity like that.

Doesn't matter what it shoots at the range, it was clearly defective because you missed a standing target.:p

:D

Congrats on the moose. I'm jealous because my moose trip fell apart and the best I will do this year will be a deer or two.
