Thompson Auto Ordinance 1911

I know Deselins(sp) has one/them -- you can find his listings in EE. Also, please check one of our sponsers up top (Target Sports), as I know they had one a little while ago. The original AO 1911 was a riddled with problems, but since Kahr took over, i've heard some pretty decent reviews. IMHO though, for the price, i'd check for a used Colt series 70/80 on EE. Cheers, and good luck.

I had one of the pre-Kahr models, NIB, and it was a POS.

The new ones are good. I especially like the new "GI" model.

After doing some research, I've heard the good and the bad. Seems like they were hit and miss (as far as quality), some seemed to need new parts fresh out of the box. I've got a line on a used one and the seller says it's pretty tight. Price is right, so I'll probably pick it up.

Probably nothing wrong with the frame & slide in any case. Could be a good platform for some custom work if the price is right....

Epps has a newer (Kahr ownership) in now. $649 I think. I looked at it, bang on GI spec except for the ghey rubber grips. Would be a good GI shooter platform.

I have a AO Thompson (Kahr) Custom Stainless fully loaded and it's a perfect mirror copy of my Kimber Custom II Stainless.
Nice looking, good fit and tight, accurate and reliable IMO a fully recommended 1911 under 1K budget

I bought one in July. Ive shot it twice and seems to jam up lots. Im going to take it in and have it looked at. As it stands right now I wouldnt put my life in its hands. Nice pistol though.

Like I said above, the platform seems sound, but as far as testimonials go, it's almost 50/50 for those who have problems with theirs. Loose parts, bad springs usually just little things, seem to be off on some of these. I was reading a review in the new Guns&Ammo Book of the 1911 that just came out and even the author of their review had to change out a spring with a Wolff spring on a new piece. Cleared his issues right up. I'm hoping to do a little customization to this piece. Should have it in a week, so we'll see!

Springs and things of that nature aren't a huge deal, let's face it you'll need to replace them sooner or later (it's called maintenance for you Glock guys :D) you may as well order the spring kits when you get the gun. It can be a little frustrating at first, but if you're going to commit to the 1911 platform it's part of the deal - no maintenance, no bang.
