Contact the CFC and see if they can give you a registration for when it is a handgun and another one for when it is a rifle.

I have no idea if they will do this and actually doubt that they will but if you don't ask the answer is no...
 
If it left the factory as a restricted it will always be a restricted.

I have a contender pistol that left the factory with a ten inch barrel in 22 hornet. About 20 years ago I put a Gothic Arms laminated shoulder stock and forend on it and added a 22 inch TC barrel in hornet. Took it to the local police station and as far as they were concerned it was now a rifle so when all the new bs came in it was registered as a rifle with a 22 inch barrel and as a handgun with a 10 inch barrel. Legal, probably not and when or if I sell it it probably will cause some confusion for sure but I use it as a rifle.
Could you do this today??.
