Hi there. I have a little dilemma that I could very much use a bit of help with. I was recently gifted a Thompson Center New Englander rifle built from a kit. The gun overall is a bit rough, ok, it is rough, and needs a bunch of love and attention that I will begin giving it shortly. Anyways, there is one part missing and it is the 'hammer' on the side. It is the one in a kind of 'S' shape with a square mounting hole. I have the screw, but no hammer. The gentleman that gave it to me told me that he had removed it to store it so that his grandchildren could not #### and fire it. Now he cannot find it anymore. I would like to fix it up and have some fun blowing smoke with it and him. If anyone here would be able to help point me in the right direction for the part, it would be greatly appreciated. Used part would be preferred. I had already carefully cocked the lock with pliers and it appears to function very well. I will try to get a couple of pictures up later this week, or this weekend. Thank you in advance.

Hopefully somebody will happen along shortly to advise better. It looks like a hammer off a TC Hawken or Renegade (maybe other models?) might work.

Google search should find a source easily.

I don't know if TC designed different models to have some common parts but wouldn't be surprised if that was the case.

Ok. So here are the measurements from the center of the hammer mounting screw hole to the center of the nipple. My digital calipers decided that their battery was no good, so had to resort to a ruler. For arguments sake, lets call it 1 5/8" between the two. Also shown is the hammer mount in the 'fired' position.

Thank you for the replies. I am currently working with a member here on one. I will heed these links should I need. Thank you again.

I think the New Englander is just a shortened Renegade

...edit: My bad, the WHITE MOUNTAIN CARBINE was the shortened Renegade

Guess I should have posted the finished product. Anyways, here she is and ready to shoot. I fixed the wedge area so I can pin the gun together, but I did however leave the small piece of missing wood out above the front of the lock. This was because I had wanted to leave the gun with a little bit of character, as well as a bit of its history intact.

I had one laying around actually off the same rifle, if I still had the hammer I'd give it to you sorry! It went a few months ago with some odds and ends I gave away due to moving. Shouldn't be to hard to find a new one look on track of the wolf they used to carry spare hammers for Thompson centre rifles.

Looks good. I have a couple of these New Englanders', both in quite nice condition. One is an earlier model with the fixed choke shotgun barrel and it also came with the rifle barrel. The other one is a later model and it just has the shotgun barrel with screw in chokes. They are nice rifles.
