I usually look in the mag well and voila....the mag is there! :p

Seriously, the ten rounders arn't a problem to load. The TC loading tool (or a small screwdriver, nail, piece of wire cloths hanger) makes it faster to load, by retracting the follower all the way; and allowing you to dump rounds in.

Mag ejecting is very positive by the way, 10rders drop free.

All I have is the 5 rounders. As for the TVP, mine was a tack driver (not a R-55, but certainly respectable) Lots of mods and talk on RFC regarding the 597. Buy a cheaper version and see what you think .. play around with it and sell it if it turns out to be a dud.

Again .. you won't be disappointed with the R-55 in an configuration.
 
Just sold my 10/22 and ordered an R-55 Classic from Cabelas. They say two or three weeks before I see it. Going to be a long next couple weeks.

yep, based on this thread I just sold my 10-22 and ordered a benchmark from WSS in Calgary. Very accommodating fella named Ed there. I know it doesn't have the great sights on it, I just like shorter barrels and the big beavertail forend. I feel like I am 12 again: can hardly wait!

I'd recommend ordering the bases to go with it. It'll save you time.

I did order the bases too; and the Thompson ones at that (thanks for the previous discussion Epoxy7). boy, ouch on the price. But I was told that they are milled steel rather than the weaver alloy so I thought what the heck, getting a nifty gun, may as well get good bases. unfortunately the only rings I have at present are the Burris EEZ rings. Not very heavy, Hoping they will take the weird snap of a semi.
 
FINALY! Got one

Well, I am very excited to say that i received the R-55 Benchmark, and finally got to the range. The only scope i had is a Bushnell Trophy 4 X 12 X 4o with an AO.

Put a bunch of high vel. ammo (CCI mini mag) as recomended by you folks, then sat down for a little ammo testing. I am no great shooter, this is what i got. range was 50 yds, gusty day, poor rest set up. I really do think the groups will be tighter in the future as i practice.

Simply put, I am thrilled sh**less with the gun. it did get a bit gucked up with the lapuas and some eley stuff. So i am going to stick with the Fiochi; a very clean round. I also like the way it ejects the hulls forward so i am not smacking my neighboring shooter. It is a tres cool rifle. It also provided a lot of ego gratification at the range as everybody had to see what the heck this thing was:D

Hey, good to hear you got one and are happy. Was playing around with mine while waiting for 5R to cool off, using 3-9x scope put 3 Fiochi into 1" at 100m - likely largely luck but what this rifle does at 50m is nonetheless impressive. Also found the Fiochi very clean but do find mine shoots CCI standard velocity best.
 
Keep searching for ammo it likes...

Mine likes lapua, Eley, and dynapoints!!

I found mine on the EE... and I agree with an earlier poster... it'll never find its way back there!

Some of the threads that i have read from the states make them out to be pretty unbelievable in the accuracy dept. And of course the T/C website makes a pretty big deal of em.

I would really appreciate some some feedback on these rifles. I have never seen one and many folks i ask have not heard of them.

I have had mine for about 6 months. as for accuracy from a bench rest I can shoot out the staples on my brothers 10/22 targerts at 50 yrds(to have them fall down of course). The accuracy is far better than I am a shooter. I picked it up from Wholesale sports Edmonton for less than Cabelas. the best ammo was the Eley target rounds but who want to shoot $20 a box of 22s. A close second is federal Champion 40 gr that is Load #510 from the ferderal website. I had my only loading problems with Winchester Wildcats, they shot well but gummed up the action. it's a general great gun Im shooting metallic silhouette(poorly) but Ill keep on plinking as its great fun and great practice for hunting
 
I have been in Market for a R-55 for a few months now. I recently held a R-55 Bench rest and liked it. Almost bought it for $640. However, I can buy a 10/22K Target (Bull Barrel) for $440. The objective is an accurate heavy barrel 22 without any alteration.

Is that $200 price difference justifiable? Is R-55, 50% more accurate than a 10/22 Target? It would be highly appreciated if somebody could compare these two fine 22's.

I haven't had time to do my rimfire shoot off. So let me sum it up this way. I love my Ruger K10/22T. With Lapua Superclub it shoots fairly decently and it shoots ok with American eagle for plinking/varminting. No reliability issues, and with a trigger job it's a real delight to shoot. I like it a lot.

That being said I also have a T/C R55 benchmark. Mine requires receiving some more ammo to do an ammo test, and tightening down the stock (seems slightly loose) before I can target tests with it.

That being said I have shot a buddy's R55. With CCI standard at 50 yards it shot as well as the Ruger 10/22T at 25 yards. The trigger could be lightened a bit, but it was clean and crisp unlike the stock Ruger trigger. The receiver is steel, the mags are robust and well built out of steel and the laminate stock while a bit odd looking sits the bags well and is comfortable. Also it has a last shot hold open and the mag release is more natural.

Is it worth the 200 extra? Yup. You'll pay 200 just to swap out the barrel in a 10/22 to try and achieve comparable accuracy. Never mind the trigger job, mag release extender, and trying to get it to hold the last shot open.

I like both but the R55, is the one to get if it's a one or the other choice. With the right ammo it can hold it's own against many of the bolt actions such as the CZ rifles at 50 yards.
 
Thank you Epoxy7. I think you made my mind for me. I am going with R-55 Benchrest.

By the way, for those who are asking, Ellwood Epps has a two new R-55s in stock, a Benchrest and a beautiful Sporter.

I recall reading that some of the older style ones had a reliability issue. I don't recall what is was though. It was also only with some of the rifles. I haven't heard of any problems with the new ones. Also super accuracy for an out of the box semi seems to be normal. ;)
 
i do like them as well but i have went with the BRUNO semi becoues it comes in 22 mag semi very good qualityfit and finish .and boy do thy ever shot same hole kind of acurace .both are very nice guns .ijust find the 22mag i littel more fun for me can shot yotes fox and chucks at 100 yards no problem DUTCH
