Thompson Encore Pro Hunter Rifle (.243, ..25-06)

Guys-

I'm wondering what your thoughts are on the Thompson Encore Pro Hunters. I'm looking at getting the .243, but will likely get another barrel for a heavier calibre. What are your overall thoughts on quality, accuracy, easy of changing barrels, etc? I'm looking at the black stock with stainless barrel.

I have one and like it. Mine is in 300 win mag and I had to tinker a bit to get it to shoot really well. The hinge pin was loose and after 5-7 shots or so would actually slightly back out of the hole shifting my point of impact. It was really an easy and cheap fix as I just ordered a slightly larger one and solved the problem. I also worked on the trigger a bit as I found it a tad stiff.

It shoots very well now BUT I must be honest, for the price I paid for it you really shouldn't have to purchase after market parts and tinker to get performance.
 
I tried one, I had a few different barrels from 25-06 to 375HH, glad I tried it but definitely not my thing, I am talking myself into a Ruger #1 to satisfy my single shot urge.

I also have a number 1 and honestly like it better. Unfortunately for the Ruger though the TC now shoots better and sees more use but the classic lines of the #1 are hard to beat. That and wood just seems more right on a rifle to me.

I don't get this, but I have heard it before, Since the scope is attached to the barrel not the action how would it change the point of impact?

I use mine as a sort of expieremental platform to try out different calibres, I have 204 ruger, 308, 7mm mag and 50 cal muzzle loader

It's all about unwanted movement. The barrel needs to be locked up tight with minimal movement when the bullet starts its travel down it. I know the larger hinge pin made a difference in my case anyway.
 
I have one in 30.06 and have had no problems with it. It's a nice gun to carry and shoots good. Haven't changed any barrels yet though.
