17 years hunting, my first rifle was a ruger .270, my tang safety 7x57 ruger's been faithfully plugging away for 14 years now, and my 77/22 (which I love) for 15. No experiance with Rugers newer than about 10 years but my vote is for Ruger. Simple, well made and dependable. Now if I had owned a nice winchester model 70 or two that may change my mind, havn't been there (yet). Love my 1941 model 94 30-30 and model 94/22. Top of my list? Husqvarna 4100.

Wow............I like blondes, brunettes, red heads. Hardly a fair question.
Chev, GMC, Ford, Dodge, Jeep, Willy's, VW, Yoter.
Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Harley, Triumph.
Depends on the task at hand.

Right now T-3 Lite.
Choice, old Schultz $ Larsen, big bore, small bore, yup.
On the spot deal, Browning. Rim fire, shotgun (A-5), Semi or
X-Blot.
Old Winchester 1894-94 any caliber, anytime.

rifles

Took my first Whitetail with a .45-70 Marlin, but since 1986 I've used mostly Remington 700's. Recently though I've moved over to FN Browning Mausers and Winchester CRF M70's for my primary battery. New production guns?...M70 with the odd Ruger No.1.
Cheers
Geoff

For me it depends what I'm up to. For big game the Brno bolt guns are my preference, but a super grade M-70 Classic or pre-64 nips at their heels. My ZG-47 has a balance and weight very similar to a pre-64 M-70. For a target/varmint rifle, I'll choose a 700 Remington without hesitation, although to refer to mine as off the shelf might be a stretch. If I had deeper pockets I might own Dakotas to the exclusion of anything else, if they meet your definition of "off the shelf."

Of the rifles I own my Sako 85 Gray Wolf and my Sako Hunter IV that I have now sold to a buddy are by far the nicest but my go to bolt action rifles are Rem 700's and my favorite rifles of all time are not on the list they are my Thompson Center Contender carbines have 3 of them now and 10 barrels...

You forgot all of the above!:D
But seriously what are you basing the choices on:quality, price or a combination of both etc. I've owned lots of Remingtons and Winchesters that I've liked because I couldn't afford a Steyr or a Kimber.

I have pretty much owned one of everything as far as common rifles are concerned. I ended up with several SS rugers and a Howa SS. (.25-06, .270, .300wm, .338wm) for all my hunting concerns. My rugers are indestructible and more solid than anything I have owned. Love them. CRF all the way.

Winchester whether it was my 88 or 70.
Thompson Center (Encore 209x50)was'nt listed, which is what took the majority of my game since 2006 and I just bought a Tikka 6.5 Swede................

No, I didn't vote.
What kind of a list is that, when you missed the great Husqvarna line?

I voted for Sako because I've always wanted one (and finally did get it yesterday =]), but one manufacturer that I can say is proven in my safe is not listed - Thompson Center! For the money, my Icon in 243 was the best money spent to date, nice package and a real tack driver!

savage for me, but mostley b/c nobody else ever seems to HAVE AN L/H IN STOCK- savage has catered to the left hand since day one- but my go-to is a 99

I like lots of different rifle models and makes, depending on the purpose I'm using them for, and the inherent qualities that each individual type of rifle brings to the table. Lightweight mountain hunting? Tikka or Kimber. Accuracy above all? Savage works, Remington is customizable and easily upgradable. Class, workmanship and reliability? Husky all the way. Each brand and model has it's own strengths and suitable application, although I don't consider price an inherent strength, so I'm taking price out of the equation. Rifles that only have low price as a strength aren't on my short list...
