Thoughts on .308 ruger American?

I'm looking into purchasing my first rifle and I decided on a .308. I was originally going to buy a tikka, but I wanna leave some $$ to be able to purchase a scope right away as well. Is there anything that you guys can tell me or warn me about the ruger? I plan to use it for target and deer.

And if you guys have any recommendations on hunting scopes I'd be more than excited to hear them.

[/IMG]Great rifle and with a good scope ( Nikon M-223 1X4X24 ), it will do fine, it shoot moa with factory ammo so the potential is there... JP.
