Toying with the idea of picking up a .40. I really enjoy shooting .45ACP, but of course variety is the spice of life. I also like the idea of it being an easy change over to .357 SIG (which to me is a really cool option) I'm looking at a couple used guns. One being a Sig P226, the other being a Glock 22. To me both have their weaknesses and their strengths, but most people here are a lot more knowledgeable than I am. So I ask you CGN, which one, and why?

40cal is just about as expensive as 45..... buy a 9mm and buy more ammo

The .40 is a snappy round. More than a 9mm and a .45 ( which is more like a shove). If your choices are the SIG and the Glock, my choice would be the Glock. It has a lower bore axis and even though its a polymer gun, I think it handles the recoil better. I've one holed my G22 with 4 rds at 7yds. .40 is not my favorite caliber but it definitely is not a turnoff!
I really enjoy my 226 in .40. It is a fine feeling pistol imo, the fit and finish I have grown to expect courtesy of Sig. I have not shot that particular Glock so I have no ability to compare the 2. Doubt you could go wrong with either really. Had my almost 90 year old grandfather who had not shot a handgun since his service pistol way back in the day shooting it at the range. He loved it as I do, he thought it was a nice snappy round to boot.
I got a .40 glock and .40 1911. Love em both. I get no feeling of accomplishment mastering a 9mm.
Same deal for me...and I got a an caliber exchange barrel for the Glock...it would be hard to choose between them for shoot ability..and I shoot more .40 than any other caliber....lots of constructive posts on here about the pro's and cons...search the forum..and then get a .40..

If I was you I would choose the Glock.
The .40 has a snappy recoil compared to the .45 push. The high bore of my sig 226 makes the 9mm bounce alot more than it does in other platforms.
The trigger is generally better on the sig and I like the sights better, but both of thoes can be changed on the Glock. The high bore on the sig you are stuck with.
I know it wasn't one of your choices however if it was me I would pick up one of thoes cheap FNS .40L pistols that still pop up from time to time. Regardless of price I would rate them with any polymer pistol on the market.

I've shot the FNS-9. It has completely ambi controls and is very well made. Comes with metal mags.
If the .40 version is anything like the 9mm one, it'll be a good gun to consider....esp at the cheap price!!

Although I believe the best warranty is the one you never need, anyone know what Glock's is for us north of the border? There's one G22 on sale right now where with the discount it's only about 100 bucks more than used. Just trying to decide if it's worth the extra for the warranty.
Had a Jericho 941 steel frame in 40S&W, and sold it. What a mistake. I just bought another one to replace it. Excellent light trigger, accurate and a nice heavy weight. I've owned and tried a lot of 40s, but this is by far the best, bar none.

I have a G22 and a .40 P226. Both are great, though I personally prefer the Sig. I find it smoother recoiling than the Glock and it has a better trigger, which means I shoot it better. Can't go wrong with either one though.
