So does anyone have experience with the A7's or the TC Icons?? There doesn't seem to be any info on the A7 on sakos website?? Are they discontinued??

I love Sako generally, but can't say I am particularly enamoured by the A7 model's stock.

Re TC Icon, I did have the opportunity to take a close look at one owned by a Texas friend who had one in .308 for hunting feral hogs. It was not bad at all, handled well, and he certainly seemed happy with it.

Bought my kid a 200 in 308 win. She shoots clover leafs on the first two shots, third just off and then it starts to scatter a bit. I figured it was the rifle. We also shoot a kit gun, 6.5 X 55. It's a Mauser 98 and with a heavy barrel. Weighs just over 13 pounds. Clover leafs all day with that baby hot barrel and all. Got me thinking about that 200 and bullet wander. She complained about the recoil on it. I did put a kick ease on it. Need to get her out shooting soon and see if it's her or the warm barrel causing the scatter.
Did you consider the 7mm-08? Would make a nice deer rifle as well.

You should definitely keep any rifle that shoots 'cloverleaf' groups with only two shots.

I thought that the ideal calling rifle would weigh and handle like sporter, yet hold and shoot like a varminter. Turns out the Kimber Varmint weighs 8.5 pounds scoped with a 4.5-14 VX111 LR and loaded, and shoots about as well as a rifle can shoot. Works for me.

Well, turns out Darcy had one on the wall tonight.
I had full intentions of building a stevens into something to be proud of, but after a bit of an 'intervention' I came to my senses, and brought home the kimber. We'll see tomorrow how she shoots

Im happy with my A7.....if you're not in a hurry you can probably pick up a stainless synthetic barely used for around 800$. The 5 shot MOA garantee has held up for me so far and Ive enjoyed carrying it as a hunting rifle..Cant be much more that 7lbs scoped all depending what you're going to use for optics.

Deer don't seem to care for it though...

Well, had a chance to make some noise this mourning. There was a bit of a breeze out here, but nothing out of the norm. After three shots to get the scope acquainted with it's new partner, here's the results with some pre rolled..

The top one was the first. It, along with the right side was the 45 gr. white box, and then left side was 55 gr. fedral loaded gamekings. All of which were from 98 yds. The bottom holes on either side are being blamed on me, the trigger, or the bullets.... since they really don't seem to belong to the rest.

My only.... concern with this rifle the way it is now is the trigger. With some lightening though, she'd be about perfect.

All in all so far I would give this rifle an 9 out of 10 in meeting my requirements.

If you can find one,take a look at the Rem 700 LVSF.In my mind it is the perfect walking varmint rifle,in .204 or .22-.250. Mur

I have a 200 in 22-250. Its the most accurate rifle I own. I'm still doing my load development but so far I have gotten sub-moa 3 shot groups with several bullets using varget. 60gr sp, 60gr hp, 55gr sp, 50gr bst, 50gr v-max. I also shoot winchester 45gr jhp for brass and I consistently get 1.2" to 1.5" groups with them. I plan to use my hornady 60gr sp bullets exclusively for my coyote calling this winter.

That's a nice looking rifle. I little shinier then I would like, but a beautiful rifle no less.

I've always wanted to ackey a 223. What bullets/velocities are you getting??

Yes, it does look good, however I have NO interest in investing 9 hours smithing into a $300 dollar gun, regardless of how it shoots. For the amount invested you could have gotten more gun.

Did the stock improve accuracy, or just fix the ugly problem??[/



well it fixed both. it will clover leaf 4 rounds at 200 meters and it looks better. if your worried about money, then dont buy guns. i spend about 1000 a month on guns and ammo. just bought a new rifle for 900 dollars and will put another 1000-2000 dollars into it cause i can!!!!!!

The Kimber triggers are excellent to work with. I've set up about 8 or 9 kimber triggers and never a problem. 2lb's and crisp is pretty easy to get out of them. I think you'll be happy with it.

Well, to clover leaf four shots at 200 mters with factory ammo is defiantly impressive.... almost on the verge of 'to good to be true'. There is however no doubt it DOES look better.

As for this little bit here.... I'm not sure why you felt the need to bring money up. Some days you claim spending more then you need to is dumb, and some days you claim spending quite a bit every month.

im shocked how many people here will almost bankrupt thier selves to buy a rifle. (snip) people here on this site seem to get hung up on price of a weapon. i got a 1936 browing auto 5 and i beat the crap out of it. drag it throught the woods after all sorts of game. i paid 50 dollars for it from a friend of mine and i have been offered up to 700 dollars for it. (snip) people try not to think about the dollar value of thing and trust me you will happier for it. money comes and goes.

I'm shooting 62 TSX at 3400, and 75 amax at 3100. the 223 AI is one of the good ones, for sure. Rock's #3 contour is a bit stouter than some others'. I had the sharnk shortened up a bit to lighten up the rifle. As you can see in the pic, it balances on the front screw.

Not criticizing as I like your Kimber but I am still trying to figure out how you went from a Stevens 200 to a Kimber? It's like saying you planned on buying a Focus and ended up with Cadillac...

Ya, there were a few fellas in the shop that night wondering the same thing.

I guess long story short after shouldering them both for the first time that night it was a no brainer between the two. I had full intentions of purchasing a stevens, but had never actually held one up until that night...... what a 'gem'....

I guess if one penciled it out, in order to get out of the stevens what I have in the kimber (medium contour barrel, stock, etc.) there would be a very small margin of savings.... but wait time on the build would factor largely to this, so in theory the stevens would cost more.

I guess the nice thing about the Kimber is it shoots as good if not better right out of the box, and I still have my pride.
