Thoughts on a Weatherby Vanguard DBM

vanguard

That's what I am hoping to hear. Just looking for a budget 30-06 as I somehow have managed to not have 1 in the safe right now but do have quite a bit of ammo.lol

My suggestion.... go to the gun shop... shoulder one of them then shoulder a rem sps dm.... both are good choices in that price range but the Monte Carlo stock on the Weatherby is not for everyone... (nor is the Rem stock)

i love that argument. with me its usually i have the dies and brass so i better buy a ? to match. and yes i have ammo with no matching rifle. its called a sickness buying ammo, dies componats without owning a rifle to use it in.

I just bought my first rifle after hunting for a couple of years and borrowing. Went to the gun shop and played with various Remington 700s, Winchester Model 70s, and Wheatherby Van Guards for about an hour. I went in with the intention of getting a Sub-MOA Van Guard, but it ended up feeling SUPER heavy and kind of clunky compared to the other two. I liked the Winchester's floor plate, trigger, and safety mechanism the best, but I ended up with the Remington simply because it seemed the most natural to bring to shoulder.

On my second one, they are a great budget, beat around rifle.

You can throw on a Boyd's stock(no-inletting required) and have a fairly classy looking rig that shoots and without breaking the bank. The DBM also works reasonably well. This is a .270 a 25-06 is next up.

I'd agree. I was pretty set on a vanguard but then i shouldered one and realyl didn't like it

I like my vanguard. It isn't a DBM. When I went to the store and shouldered the various rifles, the sporter vanguard I ended up buying was heavier then the rems and the weatherby's I looked at in synthetic, but I liked the feel and the balance.

You should do a quick search. There is a company that just came out with magazine kits for the vanguard that give you 5 and 10 rounders.

Thanks guys I have decided to go with 1 for now. I have had and do have several rem 700's so will try something different. If it doesn't work out then I will have another excuse to buy and sell.lol

Hey all.

I have a vg back country that came with floorplate.
Installed the plastic dbm kit and it will not feed the last round.
Any of you have similar experiences and if so how did you fix it.

Thanks.

Good on you for choosing a vanguard, you will not be dissapointed. I have 3 now, one with the dbm in .270. They all shoot great, and I've had no problems. As everyone will agree however, the triggers are very rough from factory but there is a way to change this... Without buying a new drop in. Also for anyone buying a vanguard, I recently found howa's recommended "break in" for new rifles on the Legacy Sports website. Might be worth a try.
