I've been planning a 357-44 bain and davis type wildcat in a marlin 1894 
Since I can't seem to find decent chamber drawings from anyone who has a B&D reamer, I'm just going to have one made. I wanted to bounce some thoughts of people here.
The standard B&D has a very shallow shoulder - about 20 degrees by the look of it. It also has a short neck of about .200" I want to extend the neck to at least .240" and sharpen the shoulder to 40 degrees or so to reduce head thrust. I've heard that stuck cases in revolvers were the norm primarily due to setback. In a lever that would suck since it's harder to remove a case once the head pops off.
The 44 magnum has .0009" of body taper over a case length of just over an inch. I am thinking that if I start with 444 marlin brass, I can increase that to at least .040" of body taper - gaining a couple grains of capacity at the same time. What do you all think of that idea?
Any thoughts on how a steep 40 degree neck like that may effect my feeding from a tube mag? The 44 mag has a rather shallow feed ramp that cuts into the mouth of the chamber somewhat. I'm hoping to eliminate that and cut a more aggressive feed ramp into the liner.
Anyone have a short ackley lever?
