Thoughts on an Browning 1895 in 30-40

Never handled a browning but my old man had a winchester 1895 in 30-40 and I loved it. I know he kicks himself for selling it.
I would go for it.

In the past I knew of a couple of guys who used the Winchester Model 1895 .30-40.The rifles worked well and they enjoyed success with them.If I remember the rifles were marked .30 US Army. The .30-40 Krag was the United States Army cartridge from 1892 to 1903.The .303 British and the .30-40 are about equivalent in power.

Is this the Browning 1895 special edition?

If it is, you really got yourself some deal. I've had both the Browning 1895 and Winchester 1895 special editions and these cost me close to $1000 each and I traded them for close to the same value. I do have a collectable Winchester 1895 (1907 vintage) in 303 Br and this one is for keeps.

Simpson's LTD has a Krag there that I'd sure love to have, it is a bubba job to carbine but it is a period job and very nice.

The 1895 should serve you well Les. The safe will sure groan when you try to park it in there tho. Best keep a couple empty spots each side of it between your mass of 99s or the safe kisses will be extensive the next time you open it up.
