Thoughts on DP12 shotgun

DP 12?

Is that DP'd by two 6"?
or two 12"?

I've seen that video.... jk.

Personally I think it is a dumb idea to do go: pump bang bang pump bang bang.

I think it depends on your opinion of stress, and fine motor control.

I am interested in getting one of these shotguns as well but like mentioned there is not much info about it here. I watched a couple u tube vids of it and the kel tec and they both seem pretty good. Thing I don't like about the kel tec is there is lots of plastic on it where the dp 12 is mostly made of metal, but its a fair bit heavier too

Ehhh i was intrigued at first but a lot of jam ups in videos. Not overly in love with my ksg either. If u practice loading in tactical drills with a normal shotgun i would say you're better off. My 590a1 still my fav

It's heavy! Especially when fully loaded. It cycles well enough, like the UTAS-15 or KSG, do not short stroke it. Pump it like you mean it and it will not malfunction.

I am thinking a good semi is faster to shoot.

Nope. The DP12 is by far faster to cycle through the rounds. And if you set the upper limit of rounds, the DP12 is more than twice as fast. Youtube videos show the result, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPwi1AsIy_0

I have shot a DP-12 and own an 870. The big difference one has to get used to is the pump, bang, bang, then pump.

I can agree on the capacity but not on the speed. I mentioned a semi not a single pump like the 870. In the video as far as I can tell there was no comparison done on speed between the DP12 and a good quality semi.
Don't get me wrong I think it is an excellent shotgun but I am not sure how it would serve a purpose for a problem that most likely doesn't even exist.

For starters, let's make the assumption the DP-12 is a tactical weapon and not a sporting or hunting firearm. Then magazine capacity is king. I recently watched the Magpul Dynamics DVD series, "The Art of The Dynamic Shotgun" and the two instructors commented that the essential element of shotgun deployment is magazine capacity and reloading. They say "you are either shooting your weapon or reloading it" in a fighting situation. BTW, these guys were clearly ex-military.

But I would still put money on a DP-12 to out gun a semi-auto to achieve a faster time with 14 rounds. Even an 8 round semi would need a combat reload of 6 single rounds which is vastly slower than a pump, bang, bang, rinse and repeat.

If you needed more rounds than what the DP-12 holds however, a conventional pump or semi would be much faster to get back into action given how relatively slow loading the DP-12's magazines appears to be, and the inability to quickly port load it while its in firing position.

Performing a slug swap appears to be a bit of an issue as well.

Although I have no experience with doing a rapid re-load on the DP-12, I would agree with your statement in principle. It does have its quirks. For me, I just couldn't justify the over $2k entry price and you better buy a pallet of ammo because it eats it fast.

2600 rounds and not a jam or malfunction to date. Eats absolutely everything I put in it, I even mix and match 2s with 4s, buckshot, slugs. I've owned two Benelli M4s and put more then 5000 rounds through them. Now I have one that sits in the safe.
Shooting slugs with the DP12 is like shooting 4s with the Benelli.

Kind of interesting.

From this and other videos I somewhat take back my comment about it be slow to load the magazines, its not fast but its a lot better than the other double tube pumps.

The only real downside seems to be the safety, which can't be engaged until you rack the gun, or if you only shoot 1 of the chambered rounds.
