Any advice for first 9mm handgun? Currently looking at HKSFP9, Glock 17 Gen 5, CZ SP-01 Phantom, and the Walther PPQ M2.

Thanks all.

Cz shadow 1 or 2. There will be dozens of posters backing me on this, so just go buy one. It took me two pistols to get to my shadow and I couldn’t believe I didn’t purchase it as my first.

Just went through this myself.
It was a easy choice for me I have always been enamored with 1911's and hi-powers.
Decided to go with the purpose built 9mm hi power over the 1911 first.
So are any of your choices "the one" you have always wanted?

I've always been a fan of the glock. But I'm still fairly new here and don't own a pistol yet. Working on correcting this myself. Cheers

CZ Shadow. I have a Shadow SP-01, my second handgun. Still my favorite so mine is not for sale, you will find a lot of them in EE for a fair price.

All 4 listed are excellent, proven and reliable guns. 3 are striker fired and the Sp-01 is hammer fired, all metal and DA/SA.

If you plan on shooting IPSC, then the Shadow is the best choice by far.
The Shadow also works in IDPA but isn’t really in the “spirit” of IDPA mostly due to its weight.

Best answer is to try them all. The PPQ has the shortest reset and trigger pull of the polymer guns you listed. The CZ has, arguably, the best DA/SA trigger for a stock metal gun. You really can’t go wrong with any of them.

My first pistol was a 45 1911, but my first 9mm was a Norc Nz-85. Great gun for a CZ clone. well built and reliable, but I do prefer the feel of the Hi-Power to the CZ or NZ.

Forget stats, forget reviews, forget everyone else's opinions and ask yourself the following questions; what is the gun that you will want to pass down to your kids, what is the gun you always fantisized about and wanted and what is the gun you will have no issue calling your first gun?

Pretty sure my opinion was valid... Just saying

I doubt the OP knows how to grip a pistol "properly", so saying he should handle a bunch before buying, may not get the desired result. Also, some may fit better with thinner or thicker grip panels. Again, he may not know what to look for. Some instruction would be good first, then he'd be in a better position to make an informed decision. Just saying. :)

OP, buy something. Learn on it for a while. Then sell it and buy something else more in line with your "new" preferences, when you're a bit more educated.

I completely agree. I guess a better way to ask the question is what is the gun that will give me the best first experience...
