Hey Guys,

What are your thoughts on the Girsan MC28? I currently own a Smith and Wesson 686. Looking into to getting my first semi-auto pistol. Anyone who owns one let me know what your experience good or bad has been like. Thanks!

Ya I've heard really good things from a few guys I shoot with who own the mc28. People swearing it's better than the m&p 9mm. Don't own one myself though

I have one and I like it.
The only complaint I had was the trigger pull is long & heavy. However I spent a couple of hours smoothing out the
the trigger internals and now it a lot better.

As your first semi-auto, you're unlikely to realize how bad it is :).

We've already had a couple of threads on that gun.

Is it really that bad everyone else seems ok with it a part from a slightly heavy trigger. Anything else that seems unacceptable?

What are your reasons for the Girsan. Of all the decent polymers out there, why specifically the Girsan?
Is it a matter of price or something else?

For a few dollars more ( or even for the same amount used), you can find a matching M&P 9mm ( which the Girsan is loosely based on) for your 686.

Its not even the trigger that is only bad on that pistol. Everything with the ergonomics is terrible even though they copied almost everything from the M&P. Only thing worse is a hipoint.

First contact was good: good handling and very high vis sights.

Then I found it had a lazzy recoil spring and could actually release the striker before being fully in battery.

Trigger was atrocious: I kept thinking it hadn't reset and was out of room to move back, but the gun would finally go bang.

Every other reloading the mag would bump onto some inside frame and I had to correct the angle of insertion.

Trigger is easily polished and now snaps at 4lb and has a loud and crisp reset. Not very good out of the box. Other than that great gun. But if you buy it, it’s almost impossible to resell.

This is Great advice ^
The Canik is so much better of a pistol . Here in the States it cost me $70 US MORE FOR THE Canik, but it was way more gun than the MC28 which cost $229 versus $299 for the Canik.

Yes. I forgot about that glitch. I filled a ledge inside the grip with some epoxy so it would not snag the mag.

Isnt the Canik twice the price in Canada? They had the MC28 for $275 in Montreal at Dantes. I'm not sure anything can compete at that price range, but seeing so many Canik reccomendations on here maybe I'm missing something, do these sell for cheap in Canada? The one store I found had them for$ 5-600

Why would you buy a piece of crap for $275? Even if it cost $100 it would still be a crappy pistol. You wouldn't be able to shoot it accurately, anyway. The price is so low because it's crap. Waste of money.

Yeah perhaps it is junk..I can't say, havn't shot it yet, but I've heard overwhelming good reviews from the online community. It is affordable because the CAD is strong in Turkey. I have tried Turkish Hatsan shotguns that shot very well, so I am not quick to discount this company. Price is not always reflective of value. But sounds like you have tried it? The trigger doesn't sound like the best, but its striker fired, what do you expect :p
