Thoughts on Girsan MC312 as a budget hunting shotgun?

I bought a Girsan MC312 with wood furniture last year from Tenda. packed fine, was pristine when delivered, nothing that loose in the box if I remember right. about one hundred shells through it last fall for a break in, with no hiccups.

Hi - I have one from last summer. Like spoc, I only have a couple boxes thru it to test function. Mostly #7.5s but I also shot a dozen slugs - Win Rackmaster HV. After that I went out and bought a Limbsaver butt pad!! And remembered why for a week or so ;-P
Other than that I'm completely happy. Not a 'wet' hunter so can't give an opinion, but mine's a 3" - not 3.5 and I wouldn't hesitate to shoot 'heavy' duck/goose loads, especially after the 'Saver. Read a review by Randy Wakeman and also this thread on shotgunworld ->
http s://www.shotgunworld.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=448523&start=0 - these locked in my purchase.

BTW - I'm a compulsive "Deal shopper" and keep thinking of buying another. Excellent bargain and Girsan is developing a good rep among those who are not 'gun snobs'. I don't have a couple thou $ to put into a 'really good' shotter.

Any idea on the limbsaver pad model number that will fit the 312?

Interested as well.. .

Which stock (synthetic or walnut) did you have and which limbsaver did you install on it?

David

I'll jump on the bandwagon for future interest, what limbsaver buttpad fit the girsan? Was it a pre fit or grind to fit? wood/synthetic stock?

Ok - first off - not interested in responses re: Turkish guns and / or buy a *****

Interested in hearing from those that bought a brand new MC312

Based on the reviews here, I checked with our local CTC dealer and he can get these in the black synthetic 3" Mag version for just over $400. Fair enough, asked him to order me one for a planned hunt in the fall. He decided to order 2 based on what I told him I had read. Got the call yesterday it was in. I had asked him a few days ago and he said no it hadnt arrived yet and that was strange as he usually got them in a couple days from when he placed the order (which was weeks ago).

When he brought the box out, first alarm bells were the fact that the top of the box had a number of punctures - I thought uh oh thats from the charging handle. Opened the box up, the shotgun (without the barrel which is in another compartment in the box) is in a plastic sleeve with the charging handle facing downwards creating a couple of creases in the cardboard. The box with the choke tubes is lying loose and unsecured in the box.

The butt stock has some scratches and what looked to me like some decent scuffs on the left side. CTC manager (who is a good guy) says oh that is oil. No way I say and he goes into the back and comes out with some armour all wipes and micro fleece and rubs the stock, but I can still see the scuffs and scratches. I ask him what the other one looked like and he said he didnt receive a second one. I told him I would pass on this one till the second one came in and make a decision then. The receiver who opened it when it showed up came out and told me when he opened the box to verify the S/N, that exactly how it came - with the choke tube case lying loose in the box.

OK - recognizing this is a utility hunting shotgun, my question is to those that bought a brand new MC312, how was it packed in the box? Was the choke tube case lying loose in the box so that it could rattle around with the firearm?

To me it looks like someone had one and sent it back to the distributor and it got forwarded here. I did not check the barrel as I never made it past the receiver. Based on the box, my biggest concern would be that the charging handle was damaged and shear off when I need it most. As you cant return firearms to CTC, I wasnt willing to take a chance on it.

Almost sounds like it was a display model someone boxed up in a hurry and threw it on a truck, did he get it from another CT?

Thank you - this the information I was looking for

Thats what it looks like but he said it came from the distributor that way. But does make me wonder as the second shotgun he ordered did not arrive with this one

Sorry not what you are exactly looking for, but I just got a Charles daly 601 which is a gas operated and very similarly priced 12ga.... What a raging piece of garbage.

If you decide against the 312, don't go for a 601 field instead.

OK thanks for the warning on the Charles Daly - if I cant get the Girsan I wont be buying anything else

Limbsaver No. 10810 / 10401 pic

Hey y'all - jonesy started a new thread asking about the Limbsaver. I kept the OEM pad in the L- pack so have the number - " 10810 / 10401 " . Makes shooting a stick of slugs a breeze
See his thread w-My 'butt pic' here - http s://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/2126762-Limbsaver-for-the-M4-Turk-Clones

BTW - My LGS in Moncton NB still has a few left - in Walnut, Camo, or black synth. Black starts at $399.99 + tax - no idea about shipping charges. Doctor Deals website - also still has a good ammo selection .

I just ordered the Girsan form g4c so o will update when it shows up, I was on the fence about the charles daly 601 but wanted the inertia, definitely glad I went the Girsan route...i think lol

Update - So when the site sponsors started showing them back in stock, I called the CTC manager and he checked - his distributor had them back in stock and I ended up ordering the 3" model in camo finish - he gave me the same price as the sale price that one of the sponsors had them on for.

When it arrived, the barrel and receiver were each in a sealed plastic bag in the box, and the charging handle had a big rubber knob on it to prevent damage to it and the box. A was packed securely in the box. Definitely not the same as how the one that came in February was packaged. When the manager called the distributor after I refused to take the original one, they offered a 15% discount if I would buy it and I said no thanks. I still think it was a returned firearm and I didnt want anything to deal with it.

Took it out tonight and ran a bunch of WInchester duck loads from the 70's that my father had bought when we could use lead shot. All 2 3/4" magnums. Shotgun functioned perfectly but I can see why others are upgrading to a limbsaver recoil pad. We executed my daughters old laptop computer with it (and we picked up all the garbage). Amazing how many hits it took and still didnt come apart!

Not the most detailed range report but am going to be doing some more shooting with it over the next few weeks. Impressed with it for the price paid.

Picked up a 3-1/2 camo one recently. Cycled 3-1/2 goose loads and 2-3/4 target loads just fine for me. Shot trap with it and did just fine. My buddy had two shells not lock open on empty when using it, so it may be picky with lighter loads. Though I didn't even clean/lube it out of the box so that might get sorted with time and/or cleaning.

I was able to outrun the action fairly easily, unlike my buddies Turknelli (m4 style). Not a consideration for hunting though.

It is quite a bit lighter than my friends A400, which is again good for a hunting gun.

As long as it holds up over time, I would be happy for the price.

+1 for sharing! That's a stand up thing to do.

Limbsavers, I put that on every gun ;-)

So trap shooting last week the fibre optic filament on the front sight detached and is somewhere out in front of the shooting line... The CTC dealer is trying to get a replacement but its not a huge issue as I will be using a magnetic fibre optic over the vent rib. Looks odd with the front sight frame there with no filament in it.

Just wondering if anyone knows what the thread size is on the front sight (assume its metric but dont know)?

Fiber optic rods fall out all the time on pistols. They sell the inserts, you just cut to size and melt the ends to lock it in place.

The CTC manager came through - he contacted the distributor and they sent a replacement entire front fibre optic sight to replace the one that fell out. I had other fibre optic tubes but none as small diameter as what fell out.

Be careful shooting big steel shot out of them, I bought one as a beater for farm use and ended up having to take 6-7 inches off the end of the barrel.

In my case the barrel 2 inchs behind the choke was 0.712. And shooting 3 inch shells of steel BB down it (Improved cylinder choke at muzzle) caused the barrel to expand before the choke to the point the muzzle is 0.784.

EAA will flat out deny any sort of warranty, and will not deal outside of the US. Along with not supplying who imports for them for parts. ( I did source a barrel myself and they are roughly $200 in canada)

That being said, with the barrel around 22 inchs I still feed it 00 buck and it keeps shooting just the same as it always has and wont quit.

Nominal diameter is 0.729", so yours was 0.017" tighter. Modified choke is listed around 0.705", full at 0.685". That seems really strange, there must have been some defect in the steel. Could there have been a barrel obstruction, even a slight one?

Within the first 5 shells for steel. No barrel obstruction, ran a bore snake through it before taking it out. It could of been tighter then 0.712 and ended up around that size.

I'll make a full list of measurements later today
