Hey all,

I'm fairly new to reloading and have been able to find all the components I've needed easily for some reason, luck I guess. First came with powder for my 300wm and 7mm rm with finding a stash of H1000 and WS780. Now I have stumbled across a couple pounds of H4895 and thought about using it in my 243. Since I have two main hunting rifles this one will be used for varmints and coyotes, maybe a wolf if I can find them since I hunt in the foothills/mountains of southern alberta. So my questions are, do you think this is a good powder for the 243? And second, what bullets would you recommend? I've been thinking 62gr barnes varmint grenades or 55gr Nosler ballistic tips.

Thanks guys,

Kevin

H 4895 is a decent powder. I tried the 55gr bullets but they just didn't group well out of my sako A7 with H4895,H4350 and xbr 8208. I ended up going with the nosler 70gr B-tips and H4350. The 70's tend to buck the wind a little better. H4350 also works well with the speer 100gr BTSP's.

I've had good luck with the .243/55 gr BTs backed with Varget, but 4895 performs well too. With heavier bullets, the .243 is a good candidate for slow burning powders, so some experimenting is in order. I wouldn't consider a varmint bullet for use on a wolf, I'd be looking for a big game bullet like a 95 or a 100 gr Partition or an 85 gr TSX.

I think I might give them a try, but will also load some heavier bullets incase of the wolf encounter. I mean one of feb reasons I got into reloading was to try bullets that I could get in factory ammo, and hey if they don't work then I'll try something else. That's the name of the game! Who knows they might work very well in my rifle and it'll give me something to do until I get a chance to try something different.

I picked up a 243 over winter that I going to use for next winters coyote season. I already have a bunch of Varget since I use it in my 223 now, so Im matching it up with some Nosler 70gr BT which according to Nosler was the best powder to use with the 70's.

If you go to the nosler site under Imformation then Load Data. They have a bunch of info for powders and their bullets
