Hey guys

What are your guys thoughts on this optic? Power range is 3-18x42 CDS Illuminated. My thoughts are the glass is excellent, unlike any other Leupold Ive owned. Power range is great, CDS is nice and warranty is top notch. What really turns me off is the Canadian mark up....I feel Im getting gouged.
Im also consider the Zeiss HD5 and Swarovski Z5 in similar powers. This will be my varmint/ small game scope.

Cheers!!

I have two Z-5 scopes, as well as six HD-5 scopes. I have looked at the VX-6, but I prefer the Zeiss , or the Swarovski. I actually prefer 1" scopes on any of my hunting rifles.

I had a terrible warranty experience with Zeiss and am really hesitant to buy another but the HD5 3-15 is $600 less then the VX6 3-18 considering the discount at Wholesale Sports today. I know I shouldn't buy a scope just for its warranty but having a repair depot in Alberta is a comforting thought. As for the Z5 I cant find any in stock in my area.Another issue with the Zeiss is the Rapid Z600 doesn't really work well with my 50 gr Vmax load. It says 10x is the power to range on and Id prefer 15x. If I was shooting a 22-250, it would be perfect.
First world problems..lol

Cheers!!

I find the Z600, and Z800 too thick for precision shooting, the Swarovski BRH is heavy enough to see in low light, but not too heavy to be a hindrance for precision shooting. I have target turrets with the Z-plex on all of my HD-5 scopes, and the BRH reticle on my Z-5 scopes.

I have the vx-6 scope you are looking at. The only reason i bought it is that at 19 ounces (actual weight of mine) there is nothing out there that can compare to the features on it. Love the firedot. Optics are good. That said, I feel this scope is about $600 overpriced. It really doesn't look significantly clearer than the vx-r scopes. If 12x is enough for you, I'd recommend looking at those, but they are priced higher than they should be also. If weight is not a concern, for the same cost, you could buy a used Nightforce nxs that would be superior in every way, except it would weigh 3/4lb more, and resale better.

I've had a Swaro z5 and it was the most disappointing scope I've owned. I know I'm in the minority on this one, but I wouldn't buy another.

Well we can thanks Korth for the $600 mark up. US prices are way more in line with competitors. Im only looking for new stuff, Nightforce has never impressed me, too heavy, dont want big turrets and their glass really isnt any better then a VX6.

I also like the Firedot....its actually visible during the brightest part of the day..at least the one I looked through did.

Cheers!!

Well after I couldn't decide which I liked better so I bought both. Salesman said every optic was going to be marked up by 20% in the next few days due to the low CND dollar. Im hoping to really do a good comparison in lower light outside to see which is better. During mid day they both have excellent images edge to edge and I'm gonna give a very slight edge to Leupold. Be interesting to see how they compete in low light. Both are very similar in size, the pic does not represent well.

Cheers!!

Glass aside, the leupold looks like twice the scope the Ziess is, and has a ton of features the ziess does not. I guess it depends what features are important to you. Also the 3-15 ziess weighs MORE than the leupold.

I'd be interested in hearing your head to head impressions

Mounted the VX6 on my .223 and took it out for a day of coyote hunting. Love the optic have zero complaints, firedot is great, saw it during the brightest part of the day. My only issue with the VX6 is that the side focus hash marks don't represent well. At 100 yard paper target the side focus 100 yard hash mark doesn't focus the scope, needs to be on 250 yards hash. Anyone know why this is happening?

Cheers!!

Well I was out yesterday, was -30 for the day and the power ring turned like all my other optics..no complaints there. The clicks were 1/4" on mine, I sighted it on a grided target. I'd return that optic to the store if I had a problem like that, especially when you drop $1600 plus tax on one.
I honestly looked hard to find fault in the optic and couldnt. You could easily see well past legal light, easily see the reticle on a coyote at last light, reticle wasn't too thin...firedot was great with 12 settings and button was made to use with gloves on.

My only complaint is that I had to support the Korth and their ridiculous mark up, I really dont like how they do business. That whole warranty thing still bugs me and I know most guys dislike Leupold for that very reason...which is understandable.

Well I took my .223 with my VX6 out shooting the other day and found out that the firedot did not work like it should, tried 2 batteries. Between the side focus being off and the firedot issue it went back to Cabelas....not impressed. I also found the fellow who takes calls at Korth rather sharp on the phone, his name was Brad H..it was enough of an annoyance that I doubt I will ever buy Leupold again. Live and learn.

I was happy to find a Swarovski Z5 3.5-18x44 with ballistic turret for over $200 less then the Leupold VX6.....I scooped it. All I can say is the glass is much better then the VX6...hopefully it holds up.

Well I bought a VX-6 3-18x44 and mounted it on my T3 .223. Zero done and took for a test. Random milk jugs from small to large from 350,450,550. Scope tracked perfect between all of them. Eyebox is so nice I can watch hits at 18 x it is so forgiving. The glass, well it is sweet and the detail and how sharp it is I can see mirage a lot closer for wind, hits on targets at various ranges neve before. Love it so far. I put plain MOA cds turrets on it and did not use the zero stops. I can dial about 36 MOA as it sits and will get me out as far as I need. Great optic.
