Thoughts on Nikon scopes

All I can say is I bought my first Nikon this year and hands down, bar none, the best glass I've ever owned that cost less than a grand. (Monarch 3, 4-16x42Nplex)
The spot on website , also gives nikon a serious edge in the race. Just enter your desired scope, caliber and bullet.... Check it out.

I have had a couple Nikon scopes for about a year now: a Monarch 3 and a Prostaff 5 and they are pretty good for the money. They give a nice clear, bright image and as someone else mentioned the Spot On website software is great.
I think Nikon has some new scopes coming out so you should check those out.

Well i have 3 nikons now and they are probably going to become my go to scope. I do happen to have the 3-9x40 prostaff on a .243 and I like it so much for the money, I have been confidently using it for load development on said rifle. Cross hair ( nikoplex) is a bit thick but usable. This scope compares very well with those in price range.

I like them as well, some of the brightest glass I own. Prostaff1 is on par with the Bushnell Trophy line for brightness/clarity/construction, probably a touch clearer then the trophy. Probably made at the same plant in the Philippines too...I say this because when I look through the 2 I have here, you can see 4 Phillips screws inside the tube around the edges of the glass when looking through. I've only seen this on the trophy and prostaff 1. the avoid the BDC though....in every scope though, duplex is all I want.

I think the leupold glass is about the same maybe slightly brighter in some conditions. I own both said scopes, well kinda buck master is just a renamed pro staff. They changed the name buck master and coyote to be more politically correct or something.
That being said I would choose the Nikon over the leupold on any entry to midrange scope I have a 223 lazer. M 308 awesome scopes ! buck master 3-9/40 pro staffs in 4-12/40 2.5-10/50. The spot on and custom turret options put them above leupold for the price anyways. That being said there is nothing wrong with top tier leupold scopes. I think for the money it's a very hard scope to beat. Fun fact they are one of the only scope manufactures that produce there own glass and coatings ! They are an optics company in every sense of the word they make camera equipment and some nice stuff if you ask me. I got some vx1 scopes for my 10 / 22 rifles as they are light and they were on sale. Check out prophet river they have both

I had 2 nikon's, one got set back for warrenty when the turret broke off, The eye relief is brutal compared to the Sightron S1 which is in the same price range.

I find eye relief on the nikons to be perfect if you ask me, and as advertised right in around 4"

Do you use the sightron for hunting?
I have looked at (and thru) the sightrons for long range target shooting but not glass I would buy for knocking around on a hunting rig hehehe but that's just me.

My S1 is on my .22. its no were close to a S3 but to my eyes its nicer than my Nikon. The wife is happy with the Nikon so its still on her RAR.

I have one leupold 2-7 vx1 and a vxiii 2.5-8 - maybe due to the smaller objectives and older versions I'm not real impressed with them like everyone brags about, maybe the new vx3 withe 40-50mm obj are nice? not sure as not paying close to a grand nowdays. I step up to zeiss after that.

I do have 5 nikons now and they are tops in a midrange scope IMO, monarchs and the prostaff 5's. the older prostaffs your talking about at under 200 on sale don't be scared to try, i almost bought a couple 4-12 bdc for 170 once.

I have yet to get my hands on a sightron I always hear only good things. Might have to check them out do some out with the old in with the new. That being said I don't think I could get a sightron with all the options that the m 308 scope with exposed turrets gets me for under 500 bucks. I will take your word for the eye relief and I do plan on getting my hands on a sightron soon

Yeah that's for sure, The S1 is just a basic scope. mind you my issue was with a P22 scope, I should have mentioned that. I have no experience with the other Nikons.

I installed a MOnarch 3 4-16 x 50mm on my 7mm Mag this year and I was impressed with the amount of light it let in and also that it held zero even after falling out of my gun boot while driving my quad (yeah, that was a dumb thing to do). I will buy another Nikon.

Nikon has a "no fault" warranty as well for life. Pretty damn awesome..... They expect you to use your kit, how it was designed to be used... In the elements getting wet and banged around, if the product doesn't stand up to your "normal" use then they'll fix it.

They didn't want to fix my scope because it wasn't bought in Canada... Make sure you buy it from a distributor. I ended up having to throw mine out...

hmmm. Do you mind if I ask what models of leupolds you have in the closet, and if you might be interested in divesting yourself of one or more depending on model?

Nope, I promised them to a buddy of mine, only reason I still have em is he hasn't made the 5 hour drive up to my place to get them yet LOL
