So I've acquired a stainless BLR 358 win and am looking at what kind of optic I should put on it. I've got a 2-7 vx2 leupold but it doesn't seem quite right. Was thinking maybe a 2.5 to 8 in the same model.

Just looking for some opinions on comparable optics. Doesn't have to be leupold, but similar magnification. What's everyone's experiences? Aaaannnnnddd go.

Stick with the Leupy 2-7, it's all you'll need. Unless you want to drop magnification, then I'd go with a 1.5-5 VX-3.

Vx-3 2.5-8X36mm on my BLR .358;

What ever you decide to use try to stick to some old guy advice;

-stick to good brand name...."buy once - cry once"
-make sure that you have long eye relief say 4" or better
-low power should give you no less than 40' at 100yds of field of view
-and last but not the least for dawn and dusk shooting try to have at least 5mm exit pupil on the scope's highest power

GR8 2c worth....

Mine has a Leupold 2.5-8x36 mounted. I think the matte finish compliments the black finishes on the rifle, hammer, sights, magazine etc.

(the pictures are pretty bad)

Your 2-7x33 is perfect for that application. Plenty of magnification, lots of eye relief, good glass and is lean, mean and lightweight.

I agree with this. Unless you can better define what "it doesn't seem quite right" means exactly, how can you decide if some other scope will seem quite "righter"? Your present scope is exactly what I would want.

Even though I have the VX-3 2.5-8 on my BLR 358, I agree with the opinions that the VX-2 2-7 is a good choice... perhaps the "not quite right" feeling relates more to the mounts than the scope... what mount/rings are you using?

When I say it doesn't appear "quite right" I am more referring to aesthetics than anything else. Yes I agree that my 2-7 will in fact provide an appropriate and functional optic and range for what most would require out of this caliber. But overall appearances and in order to satisfy the inner narcissistic rifleman, I feel as though it is not right. More of a superficial thing really. Maybe I'm just seeking an excuse to buy another scope......just don't tell my wife.

You would be hard pressed to tell the difference between the 2-7 and 2.5-8 at arms length... a straight tube scope is a good choice on a BLR also, the VX-3 1.5-5 is nice and compact... I had one on mine before I switched to the 2.5-8.

Would a 4x or 6X Leupold not suffice ? Out of curiosity is the BLR hold sensitive for getting accuracy out of ? I read of them needing a firm forend grip to group with out flyers..........Harold
