Hey guys,

Got my PAL and rPAL about a year ago..Sought advice on my first purchase which was shotgun, and this forum aided me in my decision to buy a benelli supernova 28' which I love. Now it is time to get a handgun to enjoy at the range...So I thought any input recieved here would greatly be appreciated.

Choice is down to 2 firearms: Sig Sauer P226 vs M+P carry kit both in 9MM. The guns are quite different one being polymer/plastic and one all metal as well as the action. The Sig I want is 1,085.00 and the M/P is 749.99 (carry kit). I have seen great reviews on both and negative feedback on both. Every shooter will have varying opinions. If I did choose to go with the M/P I would change the trigger which most people suggest.

What are your thoughts? Is it really worth spending an additonal 400-500$ on the SIG? I like the feel and look of both in my hand but having trouble making a decision.

Thanks guys,
Jake

The Sig is definitely worth the money, but the M&P is a nice gun also. It would be ideal to be able to hold and shoot both. But when in doubt, buy both. Worst scenario is you don't like one and it goes up on the EE. :)

I also wouldn't plan ahead to change anything on a gun until you have shot it. I personally don't mind the M&P triggers.

I own both. The Sig is utterly dependable and I would never part with mine but you're looking at quite a bit more money. In fact $749.99 for the S&W sounds a little high. I'm sure I have seen site sponsors with them on sale for around $660. You should check further before making the plunge. I'm partial to all-metal guns but if you go synthetic the M&P is probably the best dollar for value gun available, even better than Glocks.

I got a m&p 1st it nice,Then a sig that is very nice. to do it all over again i should have got a sig like the man said when i was at the gun shop. But at the end of the day it comes down to budget and what fits best. For what its worth i still own both, Dont think i would ever sell the sig and well to sell a M&P on the EE for 500$ i just keep shooting it too.

My advice:

Get a GSG 1911 in .22lr first, then get a Russian or Polish Tokarev TT-33 because they're only $200.

Next, you might want to get a 9mm of some kind. Take a serious look at the Browning Hi Power (standard version - blued with wood grips, not the ugly one).

It sort of depends what you like. I personally prefer the feel of old world quality that you get from a solid metal pistol like the Tokarev or Hi Power. Since I'm not carrying it, the utilitarian features and light weight of a polymer gun are of no advantage to me.

The Sig 226 is also good, but I'm just saying, check out the Hi Power since it's in the same price range. Also, the Hi Power is single action, which you might like better. At least look.

Oh, and why is the M&P kit $749 when they go for $675? https://www.canadaammo.com/product/detail/5/smith-wesson-m-p-9mm-with-range-kit/

What's the extra $74 for?

Something to consider is the pre-sale armacoat is having on the sig p226r for $1049 that comes with the .22 conversion kit, $1099 for the SRT model.

That said I'm in the same boat as you. My tax return is on the way and I'm deciding on a purchase lol.

I think it's worth mentioning that I got a refurbished P226 in great condition from IRunGuns for something around 800. It's in amazing condition, plus it was made in Germany.
So, unless it must be new, you can get some good deals on occasion.
I've never really gotten a detailed look at an M&P since actually learning about guns, so I can't really give a comparison. All I can say is that I really like this P226.

great input from amm you guys-i always appreciate hearing advice/experienc from this site. its how i chose my supernova.
