Thoughts on Savage 110 Tactical rifles

Been a huge fan of Savage rifles for many years but as you can see, reviews are very mixed because QC is very mixed.

I would not run this action in mag feed games (ie PRS)... I will gladly run one for F class (and do) where you are single loading and can manual remove case from action.

The biggest reason I stay away from them now is that there are at least 3 firing pin spring set ups... I have no way to know what I am actually going to get in a new rifle cause the numbering is all the same (or worst.. LA and SA now share the same designations).

My actions are older and they work very well except the ejection which is really inconsistent... and the upgrades really haven't worked well for me.

If you want a single shot and can get the full length firing pin spring version, side bolt release, non accutrigger action... absolutely

For mag fed, Howa/Wby vanguard or T3 would get my attention unless you can take the Savage apart, determine what is inside and confirm it actually works

Mine are all single shot solid bottomed rifles, and I really do like them, but holy smokes a guy can get messed up ordering stuff like you said, Jerry! .

The savage threads are always the same. Savage are capable of accuracy. They work well if you're lucky, or you have to buy some "cheap" parts to get them running and they they're good. Funny that savage sends out parts to make their guns run. Shouldn't that have been done before they were sent out. I used to own a bunch of savage. Had a catastrophic failure and the service afterwards made me walk away forever. Howa or tikka for budget builds. Customs for everything else.

Interesting information guys, thx. I doubt that I will ever use this rifle for PRS comps but don't really want to be fiddling with changing out parts on a new rifle either... Unfortunately, there are no shops near me to allow me to check fit and finish on either the Savage or the Tikka. Have had a T3X previous that was a nice rifle but like I said, I have reservations about the stock for supporting a bipod for long distance shooting etc and would prefer not to have to replace the stock to be useful.

Maybe I will be hanging on to my 783 and just keep it for the range. Although it is the wrong hand for me, at least I know it shoots good and is reliable.

Why are you so opposed to changing out the stock? Most times you can sell the factory stock and mag to recoup some expense.

Because if I can get a rifle with a decent stock on it already like the Savage, why would I buy one that needs to be replaced right off the top? Plus selling a factory Tikka stock and mag is mostly likely not going to recoup that much money.

Gotcha. So an inferior gun with a good stock is a better option than a quality rifle that would require a stock upgrade of your choosing. Sounds good.

Interesting take. Guess it's your opinion that the Savage is inferior although many here say otherwise.

Get a Bergara HMR in left hand.

It has everything you want from a stock rifle and being a Rem 700 footprint you can change everything down the line.

The bergara would be a great option. The factory stock is usable out of the box. Length of pull and cheek weld are adjustable. Nice vertical grip position and it's stiff enough to be supported on a bipod with minimal flex. This opens you up to many more options down the road if you want to upgrade bits and pieces due to the Remington compatibility. I did a quick and dirty search though and I was unable to find one in left hand

Looks like an awesome option for a duel purpose rifle. Yes, I did a search and didn't find any lefties either..
