Thoughts on Savage 12 LRP in 6.5 creedmoor

I came across a Savage 12 LRP in 6.5 with a reported 7 boxes of Hornady through it. The price is with a Bushnell Trophy 6-18×40, and the 7 boxes of empty brass. The scope will be sold to help fund a better piece of glass and the brass should be good for several reloads. I did a search and came up with nothing. What are your thoughts for a first precision/tactical rifle. Are there 10 round mags avail. for this. Any and all input would be great.

I have an LRPV. Its pretty much the same rifle but stainless steel and chambered in .204 ruger.

Its great to shoot other then the stock needs some kind of cheek rest built up.

Mine happens to be very accurate.

I'd say buy it. I wouldn't mind having one.
 
All i can say, is that the 6.5 Creedmoor is an incredible caliber, my own TC Icon Precision Hunter in Creedmoor is my most accurate rifle for long distance shooting... Cheers. JP.
 
Well, decide if you think 6.5 Creedmore is something you want to get behind, or are there more efficient options available?

10 rnd mags? There are stocks/chassis/bottom metal that will let you use 10 rnd mags for the savage. Are you comfortable with your/your Smith's ability to make them work with 6.5 creed more on your rifle?

6.5s in that genre have a reputation for being accurate and efficient. Is the Creedmore what you want to use as opposed to a 260, or 6.5x47 though?

How are you going to know until your behind the rifle? Ware out the barrel and pick what ever caliber you want to try next.
 
I have looked into the 6.4x47L but the creedmoor is what I found. Is there much difference to the mag. in regards to feeding either of these rounds. I am staying away from the 260R because of the length of mag with VLD type bullets. Case capacity taken up by bullet does you no good. Thats like runway behind you landing hot, useless. With lighter bullets not seated deep the 260 would be the one. The creedmoor should do what I am looking for. I was at Cabelas in the US and got to handle one. I also got to handle a Nightforce, $1300.00, very nice.

Not accurate in your assumption. The savage mag will accomodate up to a coal of 3", which is more than adequate to handle a 260 round with any 140 vld type bullet and utilize the full capacity of the case. Hornady is the only company making creedmore brass and it`s not the greatest quality and sure isn`t cheap. I would hold out for the same model, but in 260.
