Never owned a Savage rifle of any calibre in my life before, but I just ordered one of these 17Hmr:
93R17 BRJ Opinions?

Already have a CZ in 17Hmr, and it's a really accurate shooter - can the savage keep up?
Maybe I'll set this one up as a short range gopher/squirrel gun.
Could always scare them to death!

A shooting buddy of mine has a Savage in 22lR Thumb hole it was very accurate and had a beautiful stock..

I was so impressed with the gun I bought a 223 stainless out of the box it is great...

Doesnt Savage and boyds have a relationship. I thought my btvs looked like a boyds stock.
Im sure North and TDR know more than I do.

Ya boyds makes all the savage wood.

I had a heavy barrel hmr savage it shot not to bad. Sold it and got a cz 452 american. The cz shoots a lot better and velocity is better as well.

ive got a savage BTVSS and ya its on a boyd's stock.
nice gun, expensive but it is a nice shooter.

my dad picked up the same in 17HMR and he really likes it.
actually i should say HE picked his up and I really like it so i picked one up in 22.
(just cause if he reads this he will correct me)

now here is a interesting thing to ponder.
the savage BTVSS is about $550 and sits on Boyd wood.
the RAR (ruger american rimfire) is about $315 and is on a plastic stock.
if you upgraded the RAR to a Boyd stock (100-150) how would it compare to the savage?
only difference then would be bull barrel vs non bull barrel.

if you look at those prices the savage looks a little overprices no?
i say this because i have them both and those are the prices that i paid.
maybe ill upgrade my RAR stock and compare them side by side this winter.

Good stuff. American made. Accurate. Good price. You will be happy.
Have fun and post some pics when you get it out to te range :)

Savage rifles are a priced decently and shoot very well. I own several and have never had or heard of a lemon. Don’t expect a custom or a high quality rifle for the price, but for the price they sure shoot very well and better than some custom rifles.

Savage rimfire mags are garbage. Every new savage rimfire I have purchased I had to replace the mag....and sometimes had to replace the replacement to get a good one. That said the 17hmr I have is very accurate. Does not like 17grn ammo though...and is the only 17hmr I have had that will shoot the crappy win gray label 20grn stuff well.

I originally bought a 93FV 22 WMR heavy barrel and really liked the way the rifle would shoot ! The original plastic stock not so much .
Yours looks fantastic !I have always liked the look of those rifles.
The magazine system on these took me a bit to figure out as mine wouldn't chamber the rounds very well and the sometimes the rounds in the mag " popcorned " .
The fixs for this was easy though.
The bayonet style mounting blade for the mag needed to be bent forward a bit and this tilted the front of the mag upwards and the rounds now feed very well.
The rounds " popcorning " issue turned out to be only one mag that needed the lips bent in a tad.
I put on a Boyds Tacticool on the 22WMR ( Verboden in Canada now cuz scary name ) and these changes made a big improvement .
Its one of my favorite rifles now .

I bought this one last year in 17HMR ....

This is my 93FV in 22WMR mounted in a Boyds Tacticool stock on the left beside my 64TR
The TR didn't shoot worth a crap actually and I sold it.

So I guess you can tell I like Savage rifles ..lol

I'd expect this ^^. They're a solid rifle, I have a Lakefield Mk II which is for all intents and purposes identical to the Savage Mk II, the uncle recently picked up a heavy barrel Savage in synthetic. Good, reliable rifles, mine won't win any shooting competitions but it's hell on vermin or popcans. The uncle's HB however, is definitely hovering around tack driver status.

Congrats on the new rifle, I'm sure it will be a shooter. I've had 2 Savage HMRs, both decent shooters with 20gr. ammo. Smallest group I ever shot was with my CZ452 Varmint in 17HMR, again, 20gr. ammo. My next HMR will either be a CZ, or a Marlin. Would be nice to find a rifle that liked the 17gr. more.

Overall though, I think Savage centerfires are a cut above their rimfires from a QC point of view, so, look over (and clean) your new gun thoroughly. Inspect the barrel's crown too, make sure it's perfect before doing anything else.

Savage make very good rim fire rifles. The can go toe to toe with CZ with the right ammo and shooter. My TRR consistently shoots dime sized groups at 50 yrds. If I really concentrate and slow down, I can shoot 110X

I have a CZ 452 V, shoots great, buddy shoots a laminated Savage and shoots just fine, I do like the CZ mags better as previously mentioned. I would only be tempted by a wood stocked Savage. (that TR pic above looks good though lol)

I had a TR in 22lr and it was a great rifle. Accurate and didn't have any issues with it. I sold it and moved away from long range 22lr shooting. If I were to start back again, it would be a Savage. Great value and excellent shooters. It was by far the most accurate 22lr I have ever shot.

My first rifle was a mark ii BSEV which I unfortunately sold. I currently own a mark ii G which has been a wonderful rifle, especially for the price. If you're interested in a more traditional stock and irons, the G is an excellent choice. Accurate, smooth and reliable.
