thoughts on semi auto pistol carbines

If they function in the cold they'd be perfect for the coyote hunting I do. I call and ambush them on frozen creeks. Shots are under 40 yards with most being 20-30 yards. Often #4 buck ruins them when I bring a scatter gun. 22 mag gets a lot of use due to the caliber restriction. As stupid as it is I can use a 270 wby but not a 9mm luger

I think I'll buy a Jr for a bday gift for myself
 
Haven't read through all the posts so don't know if anybody has recommended a non-restricted M1 30 Carbine. New models made by Khar Industries are sold under the Auto Ordinance stamp.
 
As a rule, I don't see the point of carbines chambered for pistol cartridges; if you can do it with a pistol, why do you need a rifle, or if you need a rifle, it should be chambered for a rifle cartridge. I do acknowledge a couple of exceptions to this rule though, lever action carbines in .44, 45, and .454, and an Auto Ordinance 1927A1 Thompson complete with violin case. While the lever guns have some field practicality, a Thompson is pretty much a range blaster.
 
At short ranges a 9mm JR Carbine (or the like) is great for dispatching multiple pests in quick succession. Or for laying down a barrage on an escaping pest. Muzzle jump and recoil is minimal so it's easy to stay on target plus a 9mm has sufficient power to dispatch pests at short ranges.

And no, I don't have to practice holdover at 300 yards with my hunting rifles I use for when a 300 yard shot may be a reaility....

I believe was was saying that a deer is a 8 MOA target (I assume he meant at 100 as obviously it will change at distance) and that the rifle is capable of 2 MOA benched and 4 MOA from field positions, so the rifle is accurate enough.

I don't have any sort of experience shooting deer with pistol cartridges so I will not try to comment on the ethics of it.

Thank you for the complement! I am using a 2moa dot as well. I just set up my target paper on the target board, and put a 6" round black paper dot over the center of the target paper. The green dot of my sight really matches with the black dot. It makes centering the sight dot much easier. I am toying with the idea of putting a scope on the carbine just for load development purposes.
