Thoughts on Sub 2000

to each their own.
i think it is a great gun.
enjoy it for what it is and forget about the price.
all guns up here seem to be overpriced.

i held the jr, too heavy and bulky.

Early JRC seemed to have a host of issues, while the TD seems pretty solid, ugly as hell, but solid and reliable. One thing regarding both of these models though: I thought the whole idea of a pistol carbine was to mimic a sub machine gun in weight, length ect. If you have a JRC or a TD, for the same weight and length, why not just go with 223 or one more up to 308? That's what I like about the sub2000, in that it at least folds up into a fairly small, light package. Small, light and able to throw lots of lead to 50 yrds or so; that's my take of why pistol carbines exist, sort of a sidearm one-upsmanship. Just my 2 cents on the matter as I am on 6 waiting lists for a glock mag sub2k...

I like the idea of being able to have a 10 round magazine in a non restricted rifle.

Initially yes, as there was issues with the JR and proper function, but since the new version, HELL NO!

The Thureon is ugly as hell, and the skinny handguard is just weird.

I am on the fence right now between the JR and a Mini 14, and not even considering the Thureon.

Again just my 2 cents, but this is CGN so I'd be charging a lot more if I was to sell it on the EE. ;)

How can you tell the old from new? I just emailed Frontier to see which version they have.

Like anything its all personal preference. I sold my AR15 to buy my Sub2K and I'd never go back. Its a highly customizable firearm, you can make it what you want. I love my Glock version in 9mm now that I've modded it to my liking. Cheap to shoot, very reliable, light and great for new shooters
Anyways here's mine, love it or hate it I really don't care ;)

That's a nice piece!!! What optics do you have on there and where did you get all your components?

And also is there an aftermarket sight you can get that you know of that doesn't restrict the folding ability? From what I gather the stock sights are a waste of time.

Yes. Red Lion Precision makes them. Unfortunately we can't get their stuff up here yet. I've heard it's in the works but that was before all the craziness in the U.S.. They make parts for sub2000 and su-16.
As far as my opinion of the sub2000. When I first held one I didn't like it at all it felt very cheap and I never bought it. Then I bought an su-16 because i wanted a cheaper .223 for coyotes and plinking and I am very pleased with it. So I decided maybe I had been too quick judging the sub2000. Plus 9mm is cheapish to shoot. So I picked one up. Well I must say I'm very glad I did!! It's serious fun to shoot. Fired 250 rounds with no failures. I got lucky my sights were dead on. Well I haven't checked it on paper but me and a friend were shooting pop cans with it at about 40 yards shot after shot. Yes the sights are plastic but they aren't that bad. A must have for it is a slip on grip and I prefer the long 10/33 round mags as it gives me more room for my big hands. Maybe the kel-tec quad rail if you want. I can't see me ever selling mine it's too much fun!! I'm taking it bunny hunting next year. I think it'll make a great little bunny gun.
OP IF you can find one at a retail store buy it!!! Try it out if you hate it(I doubt it!!) sell it on the EE. There are a couple on there right now for $200-$250 over retail. If you sold it for a reasonable $50-$100 less than retail it would sell in minutes!

I own a sub2k in sig mag config. Gotta say I like it. Can plink pretty accurate at 100 yards with a red dot. I took off the front plastic forgrip and put on some ebay metal universal picattiny quad rail pieces. 10 rnd non restricted 9mm shooter, whats not to like. On a side note all subs that have a mag other than glock can be made interchagable to work with other mags. Ie sig, beretta or S&W. Mine was originally a Beretta model and I sent a email to Keltec about getting the part to swap in the mag well to use my sig mags. They sent me the part for free and I had it installed in 5 min and was running my sig mags. Great customer service! It's a fun gun but if your left handed its not for you. Will eject gas into your face. Funny to watch my left handed buddy try though! Here is a site and forum dedicated to the sub2k http://www.thektog.org/forum/f85/sub-####-pictures-pictures-only-no-discussion-231168/index2.html

I agree the Mini 14 is nice but I really want a 9mm.

I'd take my sub2000 over a mini14 any day. I had a mini14 for a few months and the only thing positive I have to say about it is that IF you find good mags which are expensive it was reliable. The mini14 is very overpriced in my opinion, I wouldn't pay over $500 for one and that's pushing it.
My sub2000 has been very reliable and is fairly accurate.
The gun is mostly plastic and if that bothers you don't buy one. I don't think it feels like a supersoaker, it feels like every other polymer gun out there these days. I put the rubber cheek tube on it and a slip on hogue grip, I also modded it slightly to give it a rail on the bottom for an AFG and it's probably not getting any more work done to it.

I'm very happy with mine and for $600 what else is there to compare it to? Sure you can spend more money and buy all kinds of different rifles but nothing is as small or light as the sub2000 and the best part is that it folds and can be thrown in a backpack and taken anywhere.

I've shot the Sub, shot the TD and the JR and went with the JR. The Sub was the lightest obviously but to do what I wanted would take a lot of fiddling as the line of parts to customize aren't readilly made so pieces would have to be adapted. I did it with my SU-16 and it turned out great but I didn't want to do that again. The TD was ok but as the JR uses AR furniture, it was no contest. I can buy AR stocks and buffer tubes and fore ends and it all just goes right on. It feels pretty solid also.

A TD in 10mm, is a dream come true... JP.

I would like one of those, I love the 10mm round, I've been thinking about having Herron arms do their 10mm conversion to my Vector. I really hate losing my 10mm brass though, would have to run a brass catcher for me to have fun with it. My Glock spits it everywhere :(

I'd buy another Sub2000 if they came out with one in 10mm. Not likely to see that though :(
