How does the Swiss Arms CQB rifle stack up in the hierarchy of .223's? In such metrics as accuracy, precision, reliability, maneuverability, feeding/cycling, weight, value for money and any others I may be forgetting. Would the the CQB out perform in general say the Colt AR 15, S&W M&P, Armalight/Eagle Arms M15 style variants, Ruger mini14 and other rifles in .223?Do I park $3000 in one of these rifles or am I buying the Lamborghini when I could be getting the Corvette Zr1 and other models?
Thanks

From my experience, the "hype" if you will, of the XCR and Swiss Arms (All non res black guns) have a hefty price tag for just that reason. My colt HBAR will group just as well if not better than those non res rifles.

Sure, it comes down to taste, different styles and what have you, but at the end of the day, I'll take an AR 15 over both of those as far as functionality goes. There's definitely pros to the piston driven systems, and of course non res is quite nice, but not worth the $3000 price tags in my opinion.

$0.02

The CQBs with the 553 gas system are one of the finest SBRs out there. It really isn't an accurate comparison, but I would take it into harms way over my SR-15 in a heart beat. Or my 6920. Comparing it to similarly equipped ARs with ~10" barrels - most definately more reliable.

There is no "hype" concerning the SAN guns. They are quite simply over built and very durable. Whether they are affordable or "worth" the extra money is a personal decision. There are lots of high speed low drag units using the SG552/553 because it works better than most other guns in its league.

If you're interested in one, it would be wise to go for the 553 version as opposed to the 552. I know that the issues I saw in Iraq with the 552s, haven't seemed to carry over to the semi auto versions, but I still wouldn't trust one. I also generally feel that 7.9 inch barrel is too short to get the best ballistics out of 5.56. Though they are fine for punching paper.

If you want a cool .223 for blasting at the range - it's tough to beat. EVERYONE who sees it wants to shoot it. :) That being said, I sold mine, because I didn't get to use it enough... bought my NR FS2000 instead!

Personally, I wouldn't care if it's the 552 or 553 setup - for range (and non-auto) use, I doubt you'd ever see an issue develop with the 552.

If it's 'worth it' is totally up to you. In my opinion, definately much more 'fun' than a similarly barrelled AR... and much more unique!

Very few people who buy one regret it, the same with the entire Swiss Arms family.

QFT, I've had pretty much every thing else (not the FS2000 or Tavor) but the one that is still here is my Black Special. Maybe if ARs were NR I'd play with something else but until that happens I'm good to go.

It's a fine rifle in every way. It's accurate and extremely well built. The 8 inch barrel is suffice out to 300m. Compared to the San carbine with a longer gas tube it "bucks" a bit more and does not cycle as smoothly which means followup shots are just a tad bit slower than with the carbine. That's it's only disadvantage, it's a great rifle, and if they weren't restricted they would be the only black rifle I would own. Mine could all group under 1/2 inch at 100 yards. Benched and scoped of course, however that is not what they are buit for.

And I would go the exact opposite way after having owned and shot both. If I were going in harms way, CQB all the way.

That's the beauty of choice. There is something for everyone. I am however with you and would choose the cqb. They run clean and will go 10k rounds before needing a cleaning and without a malfunction. Combine that with accuracy, durability, and great ergonomics and it makes for the best little semi available in my opinion.

The problem with the swiss is that you dont get 10 round mags which is a disadvantage when you are gaming in IDPA... If you want a great rifle to just blast away at the range.. the Swiss is great.. but if you want to game.. forget it.. you cant keep up with 5 round mags.. I tried ... i could not do it.. to many reloads.. i would be a good Zombie rifle .. when the apocalypse finally gets here .. but until then.. get one that takes 10 round mags..

Nea lower and lar mags fix that fast. Nealar solution!

I went with the Swiss arms in the NR model because of its great reputation for reliability and accuracy, but for my uses if it was restricted I definitely could not justify buying it. To me the advantage of NR is awesome and something worth paying for. If going with the CQB version, I cant justify the additional cost over an AR15.
