I was at a gun shop the other day and they had a non res cz 58 chambered in .223. How accurate are these guns? Or would you mostly just stay sick with a 7.62x39?

I would imagine the .223 cartridge to me more accurate than the 7.62x39 regardless of platform.

Plus the vast majority of ammo for the 223 chambering is non-corrosive so no worries there.

Then buy a B&T magwell adaptor and run LAR 10 round magazines for twice the fun.

Thats how I would spend your money:D

I like my VZ58 in 5.56. The CSA guns are quality made guns. But, with that said, with ball ammo, my CZ858 will shoot every bit as accurately.

B&T magwell adapter does not work with 5.56. The CSA 2nd gen adapter does though.

VZ-58's in any form or flavor {caliber} are 3-6 MOA rifles on average.

I'll explain.
If you go downtown to "Leper-Arms" and walk out with a brand-new CZ858 and a crate of M43 surplus and then proceed directly to the range and shoot off of bags you will see ten round groups between 3-6" at 100 meters.
You can see tighter groups by sorting your rounds by OAL, though I've never done this myself.
Or you can use an optic on a solid mount with a good cheek-weld and get a little tighter.
I have owned two CZ858's and have been on the firing-line beside many others shooting them.
Lots of people won't even bother shooting off of bags they'll just rip through mags.

Enter the CSA in .223

I really enjoyed the one I had, and want to get another one.
I handloaded for it on a progressive pretty much exclusively.
Using bulk Hornady 55gr FMJs over some W748 I could average 3.5-4" ten shot groups at 100M using irons.
I also shot some Winchester white-box and AE 55gr that grouped like dog s**t 6-7" plus.
I also loaded some 69gr SMKs on my single stage with love and saw 1.5-2" groups at 50M.
In my case a scope would undoubtedly have tightened-up my groups, I really don't care for the stock irons on a VZ.

My two biggest beefs with the CSA in .223 is the 1 in 7 twist and the 200$ buck increase in price over the CZ-858.
Almost all cheap ball ammo use 55-62gr bullets, and I feel that is what most shooters will gravitate towards for general plinking and 1 in 7 is pretty fast.
In my experience a 1 in 9 twist is an all around better choice,
especially considering you're limiting factor on OAL is the magazine, you couldn't stuff long heavies in there if you tried.

The VZ-58 is a fantastic rifle, I hope the above info helped out the OP, there isn't an abundance of info about the .223's out there.

I have one in 223 with 10 round clips and a red dot optic. Fantastic little gun, reliable as anything you could ask for ans accurate enough for what it is.

But this is not the gun to buy if you want MOA accuracy

Personally, I would go with 7.62x39. I've got other rifles in .223. I like my 858 in 7.62x39, the way it was meant to be...

I have other semis in .223 as well, but it certainly can't be denied that the platform {VZ-58} functions great when chambered in .223 and brings all the good points of the design to the user who wants to re-load his own ammo.
I love my 7.62X39 but .223 sure has it's place as well, especially when I can churn it out on my progressive.

IMHO surplus M43 is the only economical round to shoot out of an 858 and as well as being corrosive it is positively filthy!
