Thoughts on the Bersa TPR9

My wife and I have both applied for our restricted licences. I know what I want but in looking for a handgun for her I came across the Bersa TPR9. With it's ambidextrous over sized controls and with the ease it comes apart for cleaning I am thinking it would make a good first handgun for her. I have read and watched several reviews on it and they all are pretty positive over it.
Just wondering if any of you have first hand knowledge on it, good or bad. you would care to pass on?

I ordered one but of course I don't have it yet. It only comes with one mag and I ordered another $70 all in. So make sure you factor that in to the cost. I'm new to handguns but I don't get why some come with two or three mags (Glocks) and some come with one.
 
Its a full size duty pistol, so it might be a bit big for a ladies hands?

The right answer is to take the lady to the LGS, have her hold a bunch of guns, and see what she likes the feel of, what actually fits in her hands, and what can she reach the controls on.

Or just buy her a Glock 48.
 
I have a Bersa TP9. Awesome pistol, but it is (and was when it was current) a PITA to find holsters, grips, etc. In Canada this is the case for anything once you get out of the Glock/Sig/S&W/CZ realm. As Suther suggested, take her to the LGS or better yet, a range where she can rent and shoot a variety of pistols. Some hands fit some pistols much better!!!!!!

I've shot them all, and find the Walther PPQ to be the absolute best fit for me. YMMV...
 
I am not to worried about the fit of her hand....hers are the same size as mine....hence why every pair of gloves I buy soon disappear...lol.
None of the local stores carry that model from what I have seen and we only have the F&G range here so no rentals. I have found mags for on line at several stores....seem to run at just under 39 bucks apiece....so those should not be a issue. As for relability, Clay from PR says they sold a bunch of them and doesn't recall ever getting one back for problems....so there is that. Being a polymer pistol, I am not sure if the grips are even interchangeable on it....anyone know?

70.oo for a current pistol is a rip off price, unless you paid a pile for shipping. Also a pistol that comes with one just mag these days is silly, but they can sell 40.oo cheaper, which is what that mag should be worth.. I am think about one, but I think I will just up grade what I have.

I am also strongly considering this pistol, but I would want to upgrade the sights to either fiber or tritium sights. I've learned they take SIG sights, but I've also seen SIG sights sold as #6 front and back, #8 front and back, or a combination of #6 front #8 back. Since Bersa is not as big as Glock, it's difficult to find any specific information on their pistols. Does anyone know what number SIG sights the Bersa TPR9 takes? Are the numbers stamped on the sight part?
I did find this link, and the big take-away is that #8 front/back is typically for 9mm, and #6 front #8 back is for 40 S&W or 45ACP

Agree on the Glock . It’s a small hand pistol .
If she’s new to pistols I’d suggest a 22 first .
 
Old post I see, did you buy it? I think as you live there , I would be shopping there as well, saves shipping and service problems.
 
I got a Bersa TPR9 from Prophet River recently. The pistol seems well made, but I was disappointed that the slide release on the Right Hand side does not work. The left and right hand slide releases are interconnected with the typical "blade and slot" fittings. There is too much free play for the Right hand slide release to work. It it too much hassle to send it back, so I will get my gunsmith to tighten it up next time I have work to be performed. Not a show stopper for me because I always release the slide with two hands. I would still buy it again, but would request a slide release check before shipping.

I did buy one from Prophet River for my wife. It seems to be very well made and it fits her hand just fine and she likes it. Sadly we have not had a chance to take it to the range and fire it yet, as our range is closed, undergoing a major redesign and renovation. My 1st impressions are that it is a very nice pistol, well made with some nice features and is a bargain at their current selling price.
