Thoughts on the new HK .45?????

Guys, let's try not to highjack this thread too far. Please try to keep it as intended.

BTW, a guys' opinion is his, we just don't need to get off on irrelevant tangents on another guy's thread. If you want to have your Berretta vs. everything thread, have at 'er, and keep it civil.
Thanks.

Thats not a pic of the HK45

There is a discussion over at 10-8 forums
HK45

Yes I have seen that one too. It is thought that this newest one may be the final version of the HK45, and the HK45 with the snake around it perhaps a prototype version.

However nobody is really sure, but I have asked someone I know at HK and they suggested that the latest pic is representative of the final product, but I guess only time will tell.

actually there is the new PX4 which will be available in .45, and the Cougar will be available again next year, also in .45, then of course there is the CX4 in .45 as well.
However that's all a moot point. The flaming in here will stop now, the next person to flame gets a timeout. IM_lugger didn't start this either, he simply offered his opinion on the gun, and someone else decided to take a run at him. Smarten up, all of you.

I spoke to two people in the know about the Hk45 - I understand it is very similar to the original pic on 10-8 and does not have the "waffle" front strap like the P3000 9mm.

As well some of the minds that created the Hk45 are posting (or at least commenting) on 10-8.

If Larry Vickers is talking about it (are anything else) I would am listening.

Secondly DocGKR posted the second pic that RL1 posted over at 10-8 from when he had a copy for NAVSOF testing -- both the MARSOC and USASOC pers commented that the production was nearly identical to the protoptye shown in the snake article.

It looks like a P2000 version of the USP45. And the P2000 is basically a reshaped USP Compact. So no big deal, IMO.

And btw, Beretta USA never made the Cougar 8000 series, they merely imported it from Italy. Now they no longer do, because it doesn't sell. And I think it has ceased production altogether, because the PX4 Storm appears to use some of the same tooling and is also made in Italy.

There are some major changes with the P3000 as far as I have been told. Perhaps the most significant is that the magazine has been redesigned as a 'semi stack' to make it a lot slimmer (a major complaint about the USP frame). Also they seem to have got rid of the big decocker/safety that adds bulk and can be engaged accidentally when firing. Also they have done away with the 'harsh' grip surface that people often complain about. Finally there is a pic rail system rather than the crappy HK specific one. So overall they have not reinvented the wheel, but they have certainly made enough changes for the P3000 to be quite different from the normal USP.

At first glance I honestly thought that I was looking at some version of the Beretta Px4 myself! :D

KevinB,

Perhaps you are right then. I have heard from someone at Hk that the HK45 was developed but that this is what is coming through. Perhaps then HK have designed two new pistols. I guess that time will tell, and it shows you that even people within an organization can talk out of their ass! :)

The Hk45 is not yet a civilian sale item, so unless you where talking to someone with fingers in HKO's military pie...

Same reason the website has no info etc on the Hk416 and Hk417...

Kevin B,

I contacted the guy again and you are indeed right. The P3000 and HK45 are different projects. P3000 is basically a full sized P2000, whereas the HK45/HK45c are being developed separately.

From what I have heard on other forums the P3000 has adjustable backstraps, the one pictured is DAO, slide stop stays in place when field stripping, has Novak style sights (which we can see from the pic), mag release is slightly changed, mag capacity is 15 rounds.

The Hk45 came out of a USASOC pistol requirement (basically a .45 that works in all environments - you know you need it when the D boys have to start playing with G19's... ) -- I'm not sure if some of their stuff got downloaded to the Hk Commercial side of the house for the P2/3K guns, for I dont pay any attention to HK's commercial side.

Look for the S&W M&P and the Hk45 to be shortlisted for the next US Military pistol...

HK45 and P3000 is two different handguns.

I didn't mention the P3000. I was talking about the HK45. The HK45 just looks like another variant of the USP45, i.e. made to look like a P2000. Yawn, next. Maybe USSOCOM will at some point stop getting H&K to make endless variations of the USP and actually buy the USP like the Germans did?

Sorry I wasnt directing it at you, I was directing it to HKfan.

Yeah, I still want one. but would prefer a DA/SA. I have DAO USP with the LEM system, very easy first shot. Mine is at 6.lbs. Reset is similiar SA, but the user can let it back out all the way, or press the trigger after it is let out for the reset. Very easy to use, but not for everyone.
