I am looking at adding a SW 66 with 4.25" barrel to the collection. Anything I should be aware of? It seems older 19/66 guns had forcing cone issues but apparently that has been remedied.

This would be the smallest magnum revolver I have owned and I don't want to have to baby it. I have a 4.25" 686 with so many magnums through it I couldn't even guess at a number and it is as solid as the day I bought it. I'd like that sort of performance ideally. Any input is appreciated!

The one I handled a few months ago felt great, better than anything I have picked up in a long time. I am not sure I can hand pick unfortunately. Seems like no shops anywhere close have stock. I will mention the detent though, what is typically wrong with the placement?

S&W wants to sell guns. They want to make them as economical as possible to manufacture. So, the new 66's & 19's are just frames with tube barrels, MIM parts and high hopes.
The older version K-frames are stupid Liberal prohibited class firearms , so their quality are unavailable to most.

Buy a Ruger GP100, 4.2" or if you desire less weight, buy the "Match Champion."

In case you're looking for a holster, the Blade-Tech one for L Frames has enough adjustment to accommodate these K Frames.

Works good with no slop? Need one to be reliable enough for a match, which one do you have? Looks like there is a few different ones

The one I have is labeled as being for S&W 686 4" OWB with Tek-Lok. THe number under the bar code is HOLX000846834399. I got it at Calgary Shooting Centre.

The screws can be tightened to retain even a K Frame as snugly as you wish.

Well I got my gun yesterday. Unfortunately for me the barrel is slightly under indexed so the ball detent doesn't quite sit where it should and the top rib doesn't line up. It shoots fine but I can't say I am not disappointed.

Sorry to hear about your new purchase. Seems to be ongoing issues with QC at S&W and some other makers.

Well. MIM parts are junk. You can't really smooth them to do an action job because some of the parts will turn back to dust. The double action sear is no longer pinned to the hammer. It just sits in a very sloppy slot in the hammer with a microscopic spring that will go flying out if you try to work the action with the side plate off. Just happened to me. I could go on.
